چکیده

Human hand and finger tracking is an important input modality for both virtual and augmented reality. We present a novel device that overcomes the disadvantages of current glove-based or visionbased solutions by using inverse-kinematic models of the human hand. The fingertips are tracked by an optical infrared tracking system and the pose of the phalanxes is calculated from the known anatomy of the hand. The new device is lightweight and accurate and allows almost arbitrary hand movement. Examinations of the flexibility of the hand have shown that this new approach is practical because ambiguities in the relationship between finger tip positions and joint positions, which are theoretically possible, occur only scarcely in practical use.

Finger Tracking for Interaction in Augmented Environments

Optical tracking systems allow three-dimensional input for virtual environment applications with high precision and without annoying cables. Spontaneous and intuitive interaction is possible through gestures. In this paper, we present a finger tracker that allows gestural interaction and is simple, cheap, fast, robust against occlusion and accurate. It is based on a marked glove, a stereoscopic...

Dynamic modeling and control of a 4 DOF robotic finger using adaptive-robust and adaptive-neural controllers

In this research, first, kinematic and dynamic equations of a 4-DOF 3-link robotic finger are derived using Denavit-Hartenberg convention and Lagrange’s formulation. To model the muscles, several springs and dampers are placed between the finger links. Then, two advanced controllers, namely adaptive-robust and adaptive-neural, which can control the robotic finger in presence of parametric uncer...

An Adaptive-Robust Control Approach for Trajectory Tracking of two 5 DOF Cooperating Robot Manipulators Moving a Rigid Payload

In this paper, a dual system consisting of two 5 DOF (RRRRR) robot manipulators is considered as a cooperative robotic system used to manipulate a rigid payload on a desired trajectory between two desired initial and end positions/orientations. The forward and inverse kinematic problems are first solved for the dual arm system. Then, dynamics of the system and the relations between forces/momen...

Precise Calibration of Robots with small link lengths using Kinematic Extensions

Complex anthropomorphic robotic hands with small link lengths and large number of degrees of freedom pose a unique challenge for calibration. The problem is interesting because the small magnitude of joint motion produced by small robots are difficult to capture by external sensors such as motion tracking systems. There is a need for a simple yet effective solution to this problem. In this pape...

A Two-Axis Goniometric Sensor for Tracking Finger Motion

The study of finger kinematics has developed into an important research area. Various hand tracking systems are currently available; however, they all have limited functionality. Generally, the most commonly adopted sensors are limited to measurements with one degree of freedom, i.e., flexion/extension of fingers. More advanced measurements including finger abduction, adduction, and circumducti...
