چکیده

This report emphasizes new observational aspects of CIR ions revealed by advanced instruments launched on the Ulysses, WIND, SOHO, and ACE spacecraft, and by the unique vantage point of Ulysses which carried out the first survey of Corotating Interaction Region (CIR) properties over a very wide range of heliolatitudes. With this more complete observational picture established, this review is the basis to consider the status of theoretical models on origin, injection, and acceleration of CIR particles reported by Scholer, Mann et al. (1999) in this volume. Space Science Reviews 89: 327–367, 1999. c 1999 Kluwer Academic Publishers. Printed in the Netherlands. 328 G. M. MASON, R. VON STEIGER ET AL.

ORIGIN , INJECTION , AND ACCELERATION OF CIR PARTICLES : THEORY Report of Working Group 7

On the basis of the observational picture established in the report of Mason, von Steiger et al. (1999) the status of theoretical models on origin, injection, and acceleration of particles associated with Corotating Interaction Regions (CIRs) is reviewed. This includes diffusive or first-order Fermi acceleration at oblique shocks, adiabatic deceleration in the solar wind, stochastic acceleratio...

بررسی شتاب‌دهی ذرات باردار از طریق باز‌اتصالی مغناطیسی در محیط‌های پلاسمایی

Magnetic reconnection, which occurs in high conducting plasmas, changes the topology of magnetic field lines and converts magnetic energy into the kinetic and thermal energy of plasma and also accelerates charged particles. This phenomenon plays an important role in changing the dynamic of laboratory and space plasmas such as fusion tokamaks and sun’s corona. The electric and magnetic fields ge...

Cryoclastic origin of particles on the surface of Enceladus

[1] Analogous to volcanic deposits on Earth, we can infer eruption characteristics on Enceladus from the relationship between particle size and distance from the vent. We develop a model in which ice particles feeding plumes are accelerated by the gas. We consider two cases: drag‐ limited and collision‐limited acceleration, which link particle size to exit velocity. After being ejected at the v...

On the thermal origin of the hard X-ray emission from the Coma cluster

We analyze the origin of the hard X-ray flux from the Coma cluster observed by the Beppo-SAX satellite. This flux is typically assumed to be produced by nonthermal particles accelerated in the Coma medium. We show, however, that in the case of in-situ acceleration of particles from the thermal pool, the hard X-rays in the range of Beppo-SAX observations (30−80 keV) are generated by bremsstrahlu...

Solar flares and energetic particles.

Solar flares are now observed at all wavelengths from γ-rays to decametre radio waves. They are commonly associated with efficient production of energetic particles at all energies. These particles play a major role in the active Sun because they contain a large amount of the energy released during flares. Energetic electrons and ions interact with the solar atmosphere and produce high-energy X...
