The amino acid sequence of the cytochrome c-554(547) from the chemolithotrophic bacterium Thiobacillus neapolitanus.

چکیده
An amino acid sequence is proposed for the cytochrome c-554(547) from the bacterium Thiobacillus neapolitanus N.C.I.B. 8539). It consists of a polypeptide chain of 91 residues, with a pair of haem-attachment cysteine residues at positions 15 and 18. There is similarity in sequence with each of the halves of the sequence of the dihaem cytochromes c4 and with a cytochrome c-554(548) from a halophilic strain of Paracoccus. Detailed evidence for the amino acid sequence of the protein has been deposited as Supplementary Publication SUP 50127 (11 pages) at the British Library (Lending Division), Boston Spa, Wetherby, West Yorkshire LS23 7BQ, U.K., from whom copies can be obtained on the terms indicated in Biochem. J. (1985) 225, 5.

Transfer of plasmid RP1 into chemolithotrophic Thiobacillus neapolitanus.
RP1, a broad-host-range incompatibility group P1 plasmid specifying multiple drug resistances, has been transferred into the chemolithotrophic bacterium Thiobacillus neapolitanus. The ability of T. neapolitanus to receive, express, and transmit RP1-encoded antibiotic resistances was examined. The data show that this obligate chemolithotroph can accept, replicate, and express heterologous plasmi...
متن کاملStructural Characteristics of Stable Folding Intermediates of Yeast Iso-1-Cytochrome-c
Cytochrome-c (cyt-c) is an electron transport protein, and it is present throughout the evolution. More than 280 sequences have been reported in the protein sequence database (www.uniprot.org). Though sequentially diverse, cyt-c has essentially retained its tertiary structure or fold. Thus a vast data set of varied sequences with retention of similar structure and fun...
متن کاملAssimilation and metabolism of exogenous organic compounds by the strict autotrophs Thiobacillus thioparus and Thiobacillus neapolitanus.
The assimilation and utilization of the individual carbon atoms of pyruvate and acetate by cells of Thiobacillus thioparus and T. neapolitanus, in the presence and absence of an energy source, were studied by use of radioactive substrates. Both organisms produced (14)CO(2) from (14)C-labeled pyruvate, but more came from carbon 1 than from carbons 2 or 3. The conversion of the carbons of acetate...
متن کاملPhylogeny of Thiobacillus cuprinus and other mixotrophic thiobacilli: proposal for Thiomonas gen. nov.
The complete 5S and 16S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) sequences of the facultatively chemolithotrophic bacterium Thiobacillus cuprinus and results of a comparison of these sequences with homologous sequences from several proteobacterial species supported affiliation of T. cuprinus with the beta 1 subgroup of the Proteobacteria. T. cuprinus, Thiobacillus intermedius, Thiobacillus perometabolis, and Thiob...
متن کاملReduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide oxidation by Thiobacillus neapolitanus and Thiobacillus strain C.
A. J. Smith, J. London, and R. Y. Stanier (J. Bacteriol. 94:972, 1967) reported that a number of obligate autotrophs, including Thiobacillus thiooxidans and T. thioparus, lacked reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH2) oxidase activity, although this activity was readily detected in the facultative autotrophs T. intermedius and Hydrogenomonas eutropha. They suggested that the absence o...
