چکیده

For decades, the overwhelming emphasis on the development of therapeutic interventions for the treatment of stroke has been in the area of neuroprotection, acute intervention to reduce the volume of cerebral infarction, and the sequellae of secondary cell death, whether by necrosis or apoptosis. Concerted efforts to elucidate mechanisms of cell death were translated into the development of many neuroprotective agents, including antioxidants, n-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) antagonists, and antiinflammatory agents.

Enhancing endogenous capacity to repair a stroke-damaged brain: An evolving field for stroke research

Stroke represents a severe medical condition that causes stroke survivors to suffer from long-term and even lifelong disability. Over the past several decades, a vast majority of stroke research targets neuroprotection in the acute phase, while little work has been done to enhance stroke recovery at the later stage. Through reviewing current understanding of brain plasticity, stroke pathology, ...

The Effect of Priacetam in Aphasia due to Acute Brain Ischemic Stroke: Clinical trial

Background & Aims: Stroke incidence is 15 million people world wide annually and one third of these patients suffer from aphasia. Aphasia is often associated with significant disability in patients. Costs due to cerebrovascular diseases play an important role in national health expenditures. We aimed to assess the effect of piracetam in treatment of aphasia. Methods: Patients with acute ischemi...

Monitoring brain repair in stroke using advanced magnetic resonance imaging.

Thrombolysis and endovascular interventions have revolutionized stroke treatment, but many patients are excluded from such therapies, and residual disability is common.1 Emerging approaches to enhance poststroke brain repair may have no time constraints and are applicable to most stroke patients. Novel interventions to enhance brain repair include electromagnetic or robotic techniques, brain– c...

Extracellular Vesicles Derived from Human Umbilical Cord Perivascular Cells Improve Functional Recovery in Brain Ischemic Rat via the Inhibition of Apoptosis

Background: Ischemic stroke, as a health problem caused by the reduced blood supply to the brain, can lead to the neuronal death. The number of reliable therapies for stroke is limited. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) exhibit therapeutic achievement. A major limitation of MSC application in cell therapy is the short survival span. MSCs affect target tissues through the secretion of many paracrine...
