چکیده

Aim: To evaluate the capacity of hematoporphyrin monomethyl ether 23 (HMME) in the presence of light to cause photodynamic inactivation (PDI) of C. 24 albicans. Materials & methods: HMME photoactivity was evaluated against 25 azole-susceptible and resistant C. albicans. The mechanisms by which PDI of C. 26 albicans occurred were also investigated. Results: HMME-mediated PACT caused a 27 dose-dependent inactivation of azole-susceptible and resistant C. albicans. Incubation 28

Susceptibility of Candida species to photodynamic effects of photofrin.

The in vitro susceptibility of pathogenic Candida species to the photodynamic effects of the clinically approved photosensitizing agent Photofrin was examined. Internalization of Photofrin by Candida was confirmed by confocal fluorescence microscopy, and the degree of uptake was dependent on incubation concentration. Uptake of Photofrin by Candida and subsequent sensitivity to irradiation was i...

Gold Nanoparticle-Photosensitizer Conjugate Based Photodynamic Inactivation of Biofilm Producing Cells: Potential for Treatment of C. albicans Infection in BALB/c Mice

BACKGROUND Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been found to be effective in inhibiting biofilm producing organisms. We investigated the photodynamic effect of gold nanoparticle (GNP) conjugated photosensitizers against Candida albicans biofilm. We also examined the photodynamic efficacy of photosensitizer (PS) conjugated GNPs (GNP-PS) to treat skin and oral C. albicans infection in BALB/c mice. M...

Evaluation of Photodynamic Therapy with 660 nm Diode Laser and Different Concentrations of Methylene Blue on Candida Albicans growth on Denture(laboratory study)

Background and Aim: Candida has an important role in denture-dependent stomatitis. The use of lasers and light-absorbing materials to act against this fungus has been suggested in some studies. In this study, the antifungal effects of 660 nm diode laser with different concentrations of methylene blue as a light absorbing agent against Candida albicans grown on dentures was investigated. Materia...

Sensitivity of Candida albicans germ tubes and biofilms to photofrin-mediated phototoxicity.

Treatment of mucocutaneous and cutaneous Candida albicans infections with photosensitizing agents and light, termed photodynamic therapy (PDT), offers an alternative to conventional treatments. Initial studies using the clinically approved photosensitizer Photofrin demonstrated the susceptibility of C. albicans to its photodynamic effects. In the present study, we have further refined parameter...

Photodynamic Inactivation Potentiates the Susceptibility of Antifungal Agents against the Planktonic and Biofilm Cells of Candida albicans

Photodynamic inactivation (PDI) has been shown to be a potential treatment modality against Candida infection. However, limited light penetration might leave some cells alive and undergoing regrowth. In this study, we explored the possibility of combining PDI and antifungal agents to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of Candida albicans and drug-resistant clinical isolates. We found that plankto...
