Low energy scales of Kondo lattices: mean-field perspective

چکیده

A review of the low temperature properties of Kondo lattice systems is presented within the mean-field approximation, focusing on the different characteristic energy scales. The Kondo temperature, TK , and the Fermi liquid coherence energy, T0, are analyzed as functions of the electronic filling, the shape of the noninteracting density of states, and the concentration of magnetic moments. These two scales can vanish, corresponding to a breakdown of the Kondo effect when an external magnetic field is applied. The Kondo breakdown can also be reached by adding a superexchange term to the Kondo lattice model, which mimics the intersite magnetic correlations neglected at the mean-field level.

Low-Energy Scales and Temperature-Dependent Photoemission of Heavy Fermions

We solve the S = 1/2 Kondo lattice model within the dynamical mean field theory. Detailed predictions are made for the dependence of the lattice Kondo resonance and the conduction electron spectral density on temperature and band filling, nc. Two low-energy scales are identified in the spectra: a renormalized hybridization pseudogap scale T , which correlates with the single-ion Kondo scale, an...

Kondo insulators in the periodic Anderson model: a local moment approach

The symmetric periodic Anderson model is well known to capture the essential physics of Kondo insulator materials. Within the framework of dynamical mean-field theory, we develop a local moment approach to its single-particle dynamics in the paramagnetic phase. The approach is intrinsically nonperturbative, encompasses all energy scales and interaction strengths, and satisfies the low-energy di...

Dynamics and Transport Properties of Heavy Fermions: Theory

The paramagnetic phase of heavy fermion systems is investigated, using a non-perturbative local moment approach to the asymmetric periodic Anderson model within the framework of dynamical mean field theory. The natural focus is on the strong coupling Kondo-lattice regime wherein single-particle spectra, scattering rates, d.c. transport and optics are found to exhibit (ω/ω L , T /ω L) scaling in...

A many-body theory of paramagnetic Kondo insulators is described, focusing specifically on single-particle dynamics, scattering rates, d.c. transport and optical conductivities. This is achieved by development of a non-perturbative local moment approach to the symmetric periodic Anderson model within the framework of dynamical mean-field theory. Our natural focus is the strong coupling, Kondo l...

Dynamics and scaling in the periodic Anderson model

The periodic Anderson model (PAM) captures the essential physics of heavy fermion materials. Yet even for the paramagnetic metallic phase, a practicable many-body theory that can simultaneously handle all energy scales while respecting the dictates of Fermi liquid theory at low energies, and all interaction strengths from the strongly correlated Kondo lattice through to weak coupling, has remai...
