Alloying and Processing Effects on the Aqueous Corrosion Behavior of High-Entropy Alloys
نویسندگان
چکیده
The effects of metallurgical factors on the aqueous corrosion behavior of highentropy alloys (HEAs) are reviewed in this article. Alloying (e.g., Al and Cu) and processing (e.g., heat treatments) effects on the aqueous corrosion behavior of HEAs, including passive film formation, galvanic corrosion, and pitting corrosion, are discussed in detail. Corrosion rates of HEAs are calculated using electrochemical measurements and the weight-loss method. Available experimental corrosion data of HEAs in two common solutions [sulfuric acid (0.5 M H2SO4) and salt water (3.5 weight percent, wt.%, NaCl)], such as the corrosion potential (Ecorr), corrosion current density (icorr), pitting potential (Epit), and passive region (ΔE), are summarized and compared with conventional corrosionresistant alloys. Possible directions of future work on the corrosion behavior of HEAs are suggested.

Corrosion resistance of iron can be drastically improved by addition of passivating alloying elements. A supersaturated solid solution of Fe-25at%Sn was produced by mechanical alloying of commercially pure iron and tin powders for 24 hours using a planetary ball mill. Electrochemical measurements were performed on cold compacted unsintered specimens.. XRD investigation on produced alloy showed ...
متن کاملEffects of Alloying Element Ca on the Corrosion Behavior and Bioactivity of Anodic Films Formed on AM60 Mg Alloys
Effects of alloying element Ca on the corrosion behavior and bioactivity of films formed by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) on AM60 alloys were investigated. The corrosion behavior was studied by conducting electrochemical tests in 0.9% NaCl solution while the bioactivity was evaluated by soaking the specimens in simulated body fluid (SBF). Under identical anodization conditions, the PEO fi...
متن کاملINFLUENCE OF MECHANICAL ALLOYING AND LEAD CONTENT ON MICROSTRUCTURE, HARDNESS AND TRIBOLOGICAL BEHAVIOR OF 6061 ALUMINIUM ALLOYS
In the present work, one batch of prealloyed 6061Al powder was processed by mixing and another one was ball milled with varying amount of lead content (0-15 vol. %). These powders were compacted at 300MPa and sintered at 590˚C under N2. The instrumented hardness and the young’s modulus of as-sintered 6061Al-Pb alloys were examined as a function of lead content and processing route. The we...
