SWEET-DB: an attempt to create annotated data collections for carbohydrates
نویسندگان
چکیده
Complex carbohydrates are known as mediators of complex cellular events. Concerning their structural diversity, their potential of information content is several orders of magnitude higher in a short sequence than any other biological macromolecule. SWEET-DB (http://www.dkfz.de/spec2/sweetdb/) is an attempt to use modern web techniques to annotate and/or cross-reference carbohydrate-related data collections which allow glycoscientists to find important data for compounds of interest in a compact and well-structured representation. Currently, reference data taken from three data sources can be retrieved for a given carbohydrate (sub)structure. The sources are CarbBank structures and literature references (linked to NCBI PubMed service), NMR data taken from SugaBase and 3D co-ordinates generated with SWEET-II. The main purpose of SWEET-DB is to enable an easy access to all data stored for one carbohydrate structure entering a complete sequence or parts thereof. Access to SWEET-DB contents is provided with the help of separate input spreadsheets for (sub)structures, bibliographic data, general structural data like molecular weight, NMR spectra and biological data. A detailed online tutorial is available at http://www.dkfz.de/spec2/sweetdb/nar/.

Evidence supporting oral sensitivity to complex carbohydrates independent of sweet taste sensitivity in humans
Compared to simple sugars, complex carbohydrates have been assumed invisible to taste. However, two recent studies proposed that there may be a perceivable taste quality elicited by complex carbohydrates independent of sweet taste. There is precedent with behavioural studies demonstrating that rats are very attracted to complex carbohydrates, and that complex carbohydrates are preferred to simp...

Open Mind Word Expert is an implemented active learning system that aims to create large annotated corpora by tapping into the world’s vast pool of knowledge. It does this by relying on the vast number of Web users who contribute their knowledge to data annotation. Open Mind Word Expert focuses on building semantically annotated corpora, by collecting word sense tagging from the general public ...
متن کاملTRANS PROF DB: A new resource for sharing translational profiles
The translational efficiency of individual mRNAs can be measured on a genome-wide scale using translational profiling techniques. Data from such experiments are an enormously important resource in the quest to understand the impact of cellular state on gene expression. To improve our understanding of these data, we have created TRANS PROF DB, a manually curated resource containing the translati...
متن کاملFERNS AND FERN ALLIES OF IRAN
The pteridophyte account of Flora Iranica (ed. K.H. Rechinger) is still not published. The Caspian forests provide suitable habitats for the growth of many ferns and fern allies in Iran. In semi-arid and mountainous areas of Iran, mesophilous plants are restricted to rock crevices, waterfall proximity, stream banks and lake shores. Based on field collections and study of herbarium specimens in ...
متن کاملLeptin modulates behavioral responses to sweet substances by influencing peripheral taste structures.
Leptin is a hormone that regulates body weight homeostasis mainly via the hypothalamic functional leptin receptor Ob-Rb. Recently, we proposed that the taste organ is a new peripheral target for leptin. Leptin selectively inhibits mouse taste cell responses to sweet substances and thereby may act as a sweet taste modulator. The present study further investigated leptin action on the taste syste...
