The 3 D Marching Lines

چکیده
This paper presents a powerful and general purpose tool designed to extract characteristic lines from 3D images 1. The algorithm, called Marching Lines, is inspired from the Marching Cubes algorithm, which is used to extract iso-value surfaces from 3D images. The Marching Lines algorithm extracts with sub-pixel accuracy the 3D lines corresponding to the intersection of two iso-surfaces from two diierent 3D Images. We show how to implement this algorithm to ensure that the reconstructed 3D lines have good topological properties, mainly that they are continuous and closed. We also present a new method to compute the diierential characteristics of iso-surfaces, and show an application to the extraction of crest lines in 3D Images. We explain that a crest line can be locally deened as the intersection of two surfaces , one corresponding to an iso-value in the image, and the other one to a crest surface which we deene in this paper, and whose implicit equation can be directly computed from the voxel values of the 3D image. Finally, experimental results for 3D images of the skull are presented, where crest lines are extracted, and used to compute automatically the geometric transform between two 3D scanner images of the same subject, taken in two diierent positions. 1 This process is part of a patent taken out by the INRIA 1 L'algorithme du \Marching Lines" et son application a l'extraction des lignes de cr^ ete.

متن کاملA fast path-based method for 3-D resist development simulation
A three-dimensional (3-D) remaining resist profile often needs to be estimated and examined especially for nanoscale feature. However, conventional methods, such as the cell removal method and fast marching method, require intensive computation, and therefore are too time-consuming to be employed for large patterns such as a mask or an iterative procedure such as proximity effect correction (PE...

High time resolution observations at 115 MHz and 150 MHz have confirmed the marching subpulse behavior of CP1919 and AP2015+28 reported by Drake and Craft,I and have revealed similar behavior in MP0031 and CP0808 (Fig. II-1). The marching patterns for all four pulsars slope in the same sense; i. e., subpulses occur slightly earlier within the average pulse window with each succeeding pulse. Sim...
متن کاملConstruction of a surface pencil with a common special surface curve
In this study, we introduce a new type of surface curves called $D$-type curve. This curve is defined by the property that the unit Darboux vector $vec{W}_{0} $ of a surface curve $vec{r}(s)$ and unit surface normal $vec{n} $ along the curve $vec{r}(s)$ satisfy the condition $leftlangle vec{n} ,vec{W}_{0} rightrangle =text{constant}$. We point out that a $D$-type curve is a geodesic curve or an...
متن کاملFast-marching eikonal solver in the tetragonal coordinates
Accurate and efficient traveltime calculation is an important topic in seismic imaging. We present a fast-marching eikonal solver in the tetragonal coordinates (3-D) and trigonal coordinates (2-D), tetragonal (trigonal) fast-marching eikonal solver (TFMES), which can significantly reduce the first-order approximation error without greatly increasing the computational complexity. In the trigonal...
