چکیده

In this paper we analyse how the field of specialization of evaluation committees may affect the outcome of selection processes. In particular, we show that evaluators tend to assess more severely those dimensions of quality at which they are themseleves more knowledgeable. As a result, candidates whose knowledge profile is closer to that of the evaluator will have a higher probability of success. Data from public examinations to the Judicial and Prosecutor Corps in Spain confirm that grades are significantly lower when the members of an evaluation committee are relatively more expert at the field which is evaluated. This confirms the importance of a diverse and balanced composition of selection committees.
