چکیده
A combined deficiency of vitamin A and E was diagnosed in finisher cattle in a 12,000 head feedlot producing beef for the Japanese market. It was estimated that approximately 2,000 cattle were affected at any one time (i,eu cattle between 220 and 300 days in the feedlot). The diet was based on grain and corn silage and although each animal had been injected with l,000,000IU vitamin A and 1OOIU vitamin E at the time of entry, there was no additional supplementation.

Escheric hia coli O157:H7 lives in the intestines of healthy cattle, and can contaminate meat during slaughtering pr actices . Detection of the low infectious dosage of bacterium requires a sensitive method. We developed polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays to detect the gene Stx2 irrespective of the bacterial serotype. In this study, the detection limit of the PCR protocol in detecting Stx...

Three experiments were conducted to examine the effects of vitamin E supplementation on feedlot cattle. Vitamin E supplementation did not affect feedlot performance or carcass characteristics of cattle fed a high-concentrate diet (P greater than .1). The major finding was the effectiveness of vitamin E in extending the color stability of displayed beef (P less than .01). Color stability during ...

✓ B-vitamin requirements of feedlot cattle are not known. Stress and/or illness can increase requirements, resulting in shortterm deficiencies. B-vitamin supplementation, particularly in the first 10 days after arrival in the feedlot, may improve performance and/or reduce morbidity. Depending on the Bvitamin, supplementation may alleviate nutrient deficiencies of rumen microbes, or of the anima...
