چکیده

Measuring the dependence between random variables is one of the most fundamental problems in statistics, and therefore, determining the joint distribution of the relevant variables is crucial. Copulas have recently become an important tool for properly inferring the joint distribution of the variables of interest. Although many studies have addressed the case of continuous variables, few studies have focused on treating discrete variables. This paper presents a nonparametric approach to the estimation of joint discrete distributions with bounded support using copulas and Bernstein polynomials. We present an application in real obsessive-compulsive disorder data.

Multivariate Archimedean Copulas, d-monotone Functions and l1-norm Symmetric Distributions

It is shown that a necessary and sufficient condition for an Archimedean copula generator to generate a d-dimensional copula is that the generator is a d-monotone function. The class of d-dimensional Archimedean copulas is shown to coincide with the class of survival copulas of d-dimensional l1-norm symmetric distributions that place no point mass at the origin. The d-monotone Archimedean copul...

Regression estimation based on Bernstein density copulas∗

The regression function can be expressed in term of copula density and marginal distributions. In this paper, we propose a new method of estimating a regression function using the Bernstein estimator for the copula density and the empirical distributions for the marginal distributions. The method is fully non-parametric and easy to implement. We provide some asymptotic results related to this c...

A Method for approximately sampling high-dimensional Count Variables with prespecified Pearson Correlation

We suggest an approximative method for sampling high-dimensional count random variables with a specified Pearson correlation. As in the continuous case copulas can be used to construct multivariate discrete distributions. We utilize Gaussian copulas for the construction. A major task is to determine the appropriate copula parameters to obtain the specified target correlation. Very often, the fa...

Parameter Estimation of Some Archimedean Copulas Based on Minimum Cramér-von-Mises Distance

The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new estimation method for estimating the Archimedean copula dependence parameter in the non-parametric setting. The estimation of the dependence parameter has been selected as the value that minimizes the Cramér-von-Mises distance which measures the distance between Empirical Bernstein Kendall distribution function and true Kendall distribution functi...

Analyzing Short-Term Noise Dependencies of Spike-Counts in Macaque Prefrontal Cortex Using Copulas and the Flashlight Transformation

Simultaneous spike-counts of neural populations are typically modeled by a Gaussian distribution. On short time scales, however, this distribution is too restrictive to describe and analyze multivariate distributions of discrete spike-counts. We present an alternative that is based on copulas and can account for arbitrary marginal distributions, including Poisson and negative binomial distribut...
