Psychological Review Stimulus Intensity and Response Evocation

چکیده
A decision model based on that of McGill (1963) relating stimulus intensity to response latency is applied to conditioning and reactiontime data. Points of similarity and identity between this model, HullSpence behavior theory, and the theory of signal detection are indicated. It is suggested that the concept of a variable, experimentally manipulable detection criterion or reaction threshold is a principle of considerable potential power in behavior theory. The difference between within-S and between-S stimulus-intensity effects is deduced from the model. The effects of motivational, reinforcement, adaptation, and practice variables and their relations to stimulus intensity are analyzed.

The effects of stimulus context on components of simple reaction time
59 Arguably, latency characteristics have been one of the most extensively investigated behavioural aspects in areas of psychological research ranging from psychophysics and neurophysiology to cognitive psychology. The investigations of simple reaction time (RT) in various sensory and motor modalities can be traced to the very origins of experimental psychology and continue to be an active area...
متن کاملCognitive Factors Mediate Placebo Responses in Patients with House Dust Mite Allergy
BACKGROUND Placebo effects have been reported in type I allergic reactions. However the neuropsychological mechanisms steering placebo responses in allergies are largely unknown. The study analyzed whether and to what extend a conditioned placebo response is affecting type I allergic reactions and whether this response can be reproduced at multiple occasions. METHODS 62 patients with house du...
متن کاملInvestigating the effects of occupational noise caused by harmful steel process on psychological and cognitive components of workers in Isfahan steel industry
Introduction Sound-induced psychological disorders include anxiety, stress, restlessness, sleep disturbance, and impaired mental function and information processing (stimulus identification, response selection, and response planning). Noise, like all pollutants, reduces the quality of life and poses significant health risks. The present study investigates a set of auditory and non-auditory effe...
متن کاملPrinciples and Methods of Diabetes Adaptation: Review Article
Any stimulus that enters one of the dimensions of a human being puts pressure on other dimensions as well. People are constantly faced with physical, social and psychological changes in the environment and must interact with them to adapt. Diabetes disrupts the bodychr('39')s biological and psychological interaction, requiring a person to adapt to the disease. The aim of the present study was t...
متن کاملVisual context modulates potentiation of grasp types during semantic object categorization.
Substantial evidence suggests that conceptual processing of manipulable objects is associated with potentiation of action. Such data have been viewed as evidence that objects are recognized via access to action features. Many objects, however, are associated with multiple actions. For example, a kitchen timer may be clenched with a power grip to move it but pinched with a precision grip to use ...
