چکیده

We present the status and preliminary results of the analysis of kinematically fully reconstructed weak bosons at the STAR experiment. The transverse single-spin asymmetry (AN) has been measured in transversely polarized proton-proton collisions at √ s = 500 GeV, with a recorded integrated luminosity of 25 pb−1. The measured observable is sensitive to the non-universality of the Sivers function, a fundamental prediction from the gauge invariance of QCD, and can provide a direct verification of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) distribution factorization. Furthermore, it provides an ideal tool to study the spin-flavor structure of valence and sea quarks inside the proton and to test the TMD evolution. The W+/W− cross section ratio has been measured in unpolarized proton-proton collisions at √ s = 500 and 510 GeV, with a recorded integrated luminosity of 110 pb−1. The observable is sensitive to the flavor asymmetry of sea quarks, providing an independent constraint on the large flavor asymmetry observed in Drell-Yan experiments, without the assumption of charge symmetry required in fitting the Drell-Yan data.

Transverse single-spin asymmetry of weak bosons and Drell-Yan production in p+p collisions at STAR: present and future

Accessing the Sivers TMD function in proton+proton collisions through the measurement of transverse single spin asymmetries (TSSAs) in Drell-Yan and weak boson production is an effective path to test the fundamental QCD prediction of the non-universality of the Sivers function. Furthermore, it provides data to study the spin-flavor structure of valence and sea quarks inside the proton and to te...

Recent results and prospects on exploring the helicity structure of the proton at RHIC in high-energy polarized proton-proton collisions

The STAR Collaboration is pursuing measurements to help understand the origin of the proton spin. The gluon polarization is accesible via measurements of the longitudinal double-spin asymmetry, ALL , for inclusive charged and neutral pions and inclusive jet production. A recent global analysis of polarized DIS data and RHIC spin data disfavors extreme gluon polarization scenarios. The measureme...

Spin Physics with Star at Rhic

STAR collected data in proton-proton collisions at √ s = 200 GeV with transverse and longitudinal beam polarizations during the initial running periods in 2002–2004 at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Results on the single transverse spin asymmetries in the production of high energy forward neutral pions and of forward charged hadrons will be presented. Dat...

Measurement of the double longitudinal spin asymmetry in inclusive jet production in polarized p + p collisions at √ s = 200 GeV

Measurement of the double longitudinal spin asymmetry in inclusive jet production in polarized p+p collisions at √ s = 200 GeV Abstract We present preliminary results for the first measurements of the double longitudinal spin asymmetry A LL in inclusive jet production at mid-rapidity in polarized proton-proton collisions at √ s = 200 GeV. The data amount to ∼ 0.5 pb −1 collected at RHIC in 2003...

The STAR detector will bring unique capabilities to the study of p + p collisions up to total center of mass energies of 500 GeV at RHIC. The large acceptance of the time projection chamber and the electromagnetic calorimeter enable STAR to observe jets, and to detect photons and electrons in important regions of phase space. The premier experiments of the STAR spin program are discussed in thi...
