Symmetrizability of First Order Systems

چکیده
The Cauchy problem for first order system L(t, x, ∂t, ∂x) is known to be well posed in L when a it admits a microlocal symmetrizer S(t, x, ξ) which is smooth in ξ and Lipschitz continuous in (t, x). This paper contains three main results. First we show that a Lipsshitz smoothness globally in (t, x, ξ) is sufficient. Second, we show that the existence of symmetrizers with a given smoothness is equivalent to the existence of full symmetrizers having the same smoothness. This notion was first introduced in [FrLa1]. This is the key point to prove the third result that the existence of microlocal symmetrizer is preserved if one changes the direction of time, implying local uniqueness and finite speed of propagation.

Admissibility of Viscous-dispersive Systems
We consider the class of viscous-dispersive and higher-order conservation laws. We generalize the work of Kawashima and Shizuta, and others, by extending to higher-order the notions of symmetrizability, strict dissipativity, and genuine coupling. We prove, for symmetrizable systems, that strict dissipativity is equivalent to both (i) genuine coupling and (ii) the existence of a skew-symmetric c...

A square matrix A is transposable ii AT = PAQ for some ljermutation matrices P and Q, and symmiwizable if RA = ( RA)T for some permutation matrix R. A recent paper [I] purports to show that the matrix symmetrizability problem is isomorphism complete, that Is polynomial time equivalent to the graph isomorphism problem. Unfortunately, that paper is based on a misunderstanding about the contents o...
متن کاملLocal Well-posedness of the Multi-layer Shallow Water Model with Free Surface∗
In this paper, we address the question of the hyperbolicity and the local wellposedness of the multi-layer shallow water model, with free surface, in two dimensions. We first provide a general criterion that proves the symmetrizability of this model, which implies hyperbolicity and local well-posedness in Hs(R2), with s > 2. Then, we analyze rigorously the eigenstructure associated to this mode...
