چکیده

Dataaow computing is a simple yet powerful mechanism for constructing distributed visualization applications. Most of the current dataaow based visualization systems use coarse-grain computing models. A major problem of the coarse-grain visualization systems is that they introduce multiple copies of large data sets during execution. In this paper we propose a ne-grain method called the Syntax-directed Dataaow Transformation Method that combines the dataaow programming paradigm with the syntax-directed translation techniques. Our new model extends the classical dataaow model in which tokens and nodal functions are atomic. It allows structural deenition of the tokens and explicitly states the sequence of nodal actions in relation to the token structures. A dataaow system based on the SDTM model achieves better memory eeciency by keeping a dynamically adjusted minimal window on the input data stream, through the use of syntax-directed translation (attribute grammar) to specify data transformation. CPU utilization can also be improved on a multiprocessor system. A prototype implementation showed a speedup of more than two times over a typical coarse-grain dataaow system and a dramatic reduction in memory usage.

A large / fine - grain parallel dataflow model and its performance evaluation

Data driven architecture has been widely proposed in literature as an alternative to the von-Neumann design to handle real time and fifth generation applications. ,2 However, the network delays at the fine-grain dataflow level and handling of large arrays are some of the problems which should be addressed in these architectures. In this paper, we introduce a new model for dataflow computation w...

Classification and Performance Evaluation of Hybrid Dataflow Techniques With Respect to Matrix Multiplication

This paper classifies hybrid dataflow techniques due to the instruction issuing technique. A software simulation is conducted to compare fine-grain dataflow to several hybrid dataflow techniques: multithreaded dataflow with direct token recycling as used in Monsoon, multithreaded dataflow with consecutive execution of the instructions within a thread as used in the Epsilon processors and in EM-...

skML a Markup Language for Distributed Collaborative Visualization

This paper describes a reference model and a markup language for representing processing and dataflow in distributed collaborative visualization applications. The language, skML, enables processing to be represented at each of the three layers: conceptual, logical and physical defined in the reference model. skML is an XML application. A particular feature of the approach is the use of RDF to a...

The Expandable Split Window Paradigm for Exploiting Fine-Grain Parallelism

We propose a new processing paradigm, called the Expandable Split Window (ESW) paradigm, for exploiting finegrain parallelism. This paradigm considers a window of instructions (possibly having dependencies) as a single unit, and exploits fine-grain parallelism by overlapping the execution of multiple windows. The basic idea is to connect multiple sequential processors, in a decoupled and decent...

Combining Object Orientation and Dataflow Modelling in the Vission Simulation System

Scientific visualization and simulation frameworks mostly use data/event flow mechanisms for simulation specification, control, and interactivity. Even though object orientation powerfully and elegantly models many application domains, integration of OO libraries in such systems remains difficult. The elegance and simplicity of OO design gets lost in the integration phase, as most systems do no...
