Once-daily metoprolol for hypertension.

چکیده
Introduction One of the problems encountered in the treatment of hypertension is that the long duration of therapy coupled with multiple dosage regimens in asymptomatic patients lead to poor compliance (Sackett and Haynes, 1976). Once-daily treatment regimens with P-adrenoceptor blockers other than metoprolol have been shown to be effective (Wilcox, 1978; Watson, Stallard and Littler, 1980). It was decided to see if the same is true for the cardioselective n-blocker, metoprolol.

Profound Sustained Hypotension Following Renal Denervation: A Dramatic Success?
A 67-year-old woman with drug-refractory essential hypertension was admitted for renal sympathetic denervation (RDN). The secondary causes of hypertension were fully investigated in this patient. A 24-h ambulatory blood pressure (BP) monitor documented a mean daytime BP of 172/101 mmHg, a mean nighttime BP of 151/84 mmHg, and an overall mean BP of 167/97 mmHg despite compliance with metoprolol ...
متن کاملEffect on intra-arterial blood pressure of slow release metoprolol combined with placebo or chlorthalidone.
Thirty patients with essential hypertension participated in a double blind crossover trial in which they were randomly allocated to treatment with either once daily slow release metoprolol (200 mg) with placebo or once daily slow release metoprolol (200 mg) with chlorthalidone (25 mg). Ambulatory intra-arterial blood pressure was recorded continuously for 24-48 hours before treatment and two mo...

BACKGROUND A randomized, controlled trial was conducted in an outpatient setting to examine the effect of beta-blocker dosing frequency on patient compliance, clinical outcome, and health-related quality of life in patients with stable angina pectoris. METHODS One hundred and twelve beta-blockers-naive outpatients with stable angina pectoris were randomized to receive betaxolol, 20 mg once da...
متن کاملMetoprolol in the aged hypertensive: a comparison of two dosage schedules.
Thirty-one patients aged 65 y or over suffering from moderate hypertension were studied for 16 weeks using a cross-over design in which metoprolol 100 mg daily and metoprolol 200 mg daily were compared. Both treatment regimes were effective in controlling hypertension and no difference was found between the two with regard to efficacy. The 100 mg regime was, however, better tolerated and we pro...
متن کاملAmbulatory blood pressure during once-daily randomised double-blind administration of atenolol, metoprolol, pindolol, and slow-release propranolol.
Intra-arterial ambulatory blood pressure was measured over 24 hours, in 34 patients with newly diagnosed hypertension, both before and after double-blind randomisation to treatment with atenolol (n=9), metoprolol (n=9), pindolol (n=9), or propranolol in its slow-release form (n=7). The dosage of each drug was adjusted at monthly clinic visits until satisfactory control of blood pressure was ach...
