چکیده
An experimental method is presented for characterization of the combined intensity and frequency modulation produced when the injection current of a laser diode is modulated. The reported technique is based on the analysis of the harmonic signals produced when a modulated laser is used to probe a gas absorption line by the so-called wavelength-modulation spectroscopy method. Based on a theoretical model of this technique, we present two methods that facilitate the determination of (i) the deviation in laser frequency and (ii) the phase shift between intensity and frequency modulation. These methods are illustrated experimentally by measurement of the modulation parameters of a 2-microm distributed-feedback laser by use of a CO2 absorption line. The experimental results have been compared with those obtained with another traditional method and have shown full agreement in the frequency range (400 Hz-30 kHz) considered.

Design and construction of a stable current supply with protection circuits are described. The reported circuit provides a high-stable and high-level current variable from 0.5-1.2 A with the protect ion circuits to prevent over load current, voltage and off-range temperature operation. A detailed analysis of the circuit parameters is given and the time behaviors of the load voltage/current and ...
متن کاملModulation Response and Relative Intensity Noise Spectra in Quantum Cascade Lasers
Static properties, relatively intensity noise and intensity modulation response in quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) studied theoretically in this paper. The present rate equations model consists of three equations for the electrons density in the conduction band and one equation for photons density in cavity length. Two equations were derived to calculate the noise and modulation response. Calcula...

A theoretical description of photoacoustic spectroscopy generated by wavelength modulation of a semiconductor laser source is reported for a Lorentzian absorption line. This model describes the firstand second-harmonic photoacoustic signals produced by a current-modulated semiconductor laser. Combined intensityand wavelength-modulation is considered with arbitrary phase shift. Experimental resu...
متن کاملHigh-resolution absorption measurements by use of two-tone frequency-modulation spectroscopy with diode lasers.
The capability of two-tone frequency-modulation spectroscopy (TTFMS) in deriving spectral line-shape information was investigated. Two oxygen A-band transitions at 760 nm were selected, and the Voigt profile and two different collisionally narrowed line profiles were employed in their analysis. By means of a least-squares fitting procedure, we obtained accurate information regarding transition ...
متن کاملFrequency Modulation Multiplexing for Simultaneous Detection of Multiple Gases by use of Wavelength Modulation Spectroscopy with Diode Lasers.
Modulation frequency multiplexing provides a straightforward method, analogous to television or radio broadcasting, for performing simultaneous detection of multiple gases by use of wavelength modulation spectroscopy with diode lasers. When fiber-optic coupled lasers are used, our approach guarantees that all beams transit the same optical path and impinge on the same detector. Each laser is mo...
