چکیده

Resistance exercise is a key component of any training program aiming to increase strength or muscle mass, regardless of final training goal (e.g. athletic performance, rehabilitation, healthy lifestyle). Great number of studies emphasizes the importance of eccentric muscle actions as a key component of resistance training programs. Thus, resistance eccentric training programs have been compared with other training paradigms analyzing maximum strength manifestations, metabolic cost, muscle activation and fiber recruitment pattern, hypertrophy, as well perceived fatigue. On the other hand, it is well known that the muscle damage and pain induced by eccentric exercise is higher when compared to other training modalities (e.g. concentric exercise). Besides the higher muscle damage, most studies involving eccentric training programs are suggesting greater muscle mass and muscular strength gains with shorter periods of training. The aim of this brief review is to point out the benefits of eccentric training programs, highlighting its effects on muscle hypertrophy, and to indicate the difficulties that can rise when employing such a model. *Corresponding author: Fernanda de Souza-Teixeira, Institute of Biomedicine, University of León, Spain, Tel: +55-53-81185133; E-mail: [email protected] Received December 12, 2011; Accepted May 25, 2012; Published May 29, 2012 Citation: de Souza-Teixeira F, de Paz JA (2012) Eccentric Resistance Training and Muscle Hypertrophy. TrKB and FNDC5 Gene Expression and SG6K1 Protein Response to Eccentric and Concentric Resistance Activity in Young Men

Background: The aim of the present study was to investigate the expression of TrKB, FNDC5 and SG6K1 protein in response to eccentric and concentric resistance training in healthy subjects. Methods: 10 healthy men were randomly assigned to two groups of concentric and eccentric contractions of 5 individuals each. Isokinetic contraction protocols included eccentric and concentric knee extension ...

Effects of Concentric and Eccentric Strength Training on Electromyography Activity of the Knee Agonist –Antagonist Muscle

Purpose: An appropriate activity of the knee agonist -antagonist muscles is important to resist against abnormal abduction-adduction moments loads around knee joint and reduce the risk of knee injuries. Exercise training has been commonly used as an intervention to improve neuromuscular activity within the synergic and/or agonist-antagonist muscles. However, maximizing the effectiveness of exer...

Skeletal Muscle Remodeling in Response to Eccentric vs. Concentric Loading: Morphological, Molecular, and Metabolic Adaptations

Skeletal muscle contracts either by shortening or lengthening (concentrically or eccentrically, respectively); however, the two contractions substantially differ from one another in terms of mechanisms of force generation, maximum force production and energy cost. It is generally known that eccentric actions generate greater force than isometric and concentric contractions and at a lower metabo...

The static stretching, eccentric training, nano particles and biochemical enzymes (CK and LDH)

Introduction: Delayed onset muscle soreness is known, muscle pain, soreness and discomfort feeling approximately 24-48 hours after exercise. The increased serum biochemical enzymes after acute exercise or unaccustomed training were reported in some studies. The main purpose of this study was to search the effect of warm-up before eccentric contractions on DOMS, biochemical enzymes changes and N...
