Observations of Outflows from Young Stars

چکیده

Recent near-IR observations of Herbig-Haro (HH) jets and molecular outflows from very young, deeply embedded protostars are discussed. Proper motion measurements, and both lowand high-resolution spectroscopic studies reveal the excitation and kinematics of individual objects, which may be interpreted in terms of highvelocity bow shocks which sweep up and entrain ambient material to form molecular “CO” outflows. The observed properties of many objects can be explained reasonably well with magnetized bow C-shock models, although J-type shocks cannot be ruled out. We also discuss new echelle observations of the outflow sources themselves. These H2 data reveal intermediate and high-velocity line emission from the base of the outflow (from within a few hundred AU of the driving source) in most of the flows observed. The properties of these “Molecular Hydrogen Emission Line”—or MHEL—regions, are similar to those of Forbidden Emission Line (FEL) regions towards T Tauri stars.

Effect of the temperature profile of the accretion disk on the structure of jets and outflows around protostars

Magnetic fields play an important role in creating, driving, and in the evolution of outflows and jets from protostars and accretion disks. On the other hand, the temperature profile of the accretion disks may also affect the structure of the magnetic field and outflows. In this paper, we use the self-similar method in cylindrical coordinates to investigate the effect of the temperature profile...

Alfven Waves in Disks, Outflows and Jets

Observations of young stellar objects, such as classical T Tauri stars (CTTSs), show evidence of accretion disks (ADs), outflows and jets. It is shown that Alfven waves (AWs) are important in all of these phenomena. AWs can be created by turbulence in the AD and magnetosphere of a CTTS. Jets, stellar outflows, and the heating of the central regions of ADs may be due to the damping of AWs. Our r...

Interaction of Infall and Winds in Young Stellar Objects

The interaction of a stellar or disk wind with a collapsing environment holds promise for explaining a variety of outflow phenomena observed around young stars. In this paper we present the first simulations of these interactions. The focus here is on exploring how ram pressure balance between wind and ambient gas and post-shock cooling affects the shape of the resulting outflows. In our models...

The COMPLETE Survey of Star-Forming Regions on its Second Birthday

At age two, humans are just learning to speak, and they see the world in an unbiased way. At age two, the COMPLETE (COordinated Molecular Probe Line Extinction Thermal Emission ) Survey of StarForming Regions is just beginning to hint at what it will do for our world view, and it is unbiased as well. The coordinated observations that comprise COMPLETE have already shown us: 1) that large (∼ 10 ...

Bipolar Outflows and the Evolution of Stars

Hypersonic bipolar outflows are a ubiquitous phenomena associated with both young and highly evolved stars. Observations of Planetary Nebulae, the nebulae surrounding Luminous Blue Variables such as η Carinae, Wolf Rayet bubbles, the circumstellar environment of SN 1987A and Young Stellar Objects all revealed high velocity outflows with a wide range of shapes. In this paper I review the current...
