Fuzzy Logic Based Routing Strategies in VANETs

چکیده
A new kind of ad hoc network is hitting the streets: Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANets). In these networks, vehicles communicate with each other and possibly with a roadside infrastructure to provide a long list of applications varying from transit safety to driver assistance and Internet access. In these networks, knowledge of the real-time position of nodes is an assumption made by most protocols, algorithms, and applications. A new kind of ad hoc network is hitting the streets: Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANets). In these networks, vehicles communicate with each other and possibly with a roadside infrastructure to provide a long list of applications varying from transit safety to driver assistance and Internet access. In these networks, knowledge of the realtime position of nodes is an assumption made by most protocols, algorithms, and applications. In this paper we have introduced the concept of fuzzy logic and tried to study the strength and weakness of the Epidemic protocol and evaluating the performance of the same. We then proceed to evaluate the performance of a reactive ad-hoc routing protocol (DSR) and of a position-based approach (greedy forwarding as done in GPSR) in combination with a simple reactive location service. Our analysis suggests that for vehicular networks where communication spans more than 2 or 3 hops position-based ad-hoc routing has significant advantages over reactive non-position-based approaches both in the number of successfully delivered packets and in routing overhead.

Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) is a novel technology that has recently emerged and due to its swift changing topology and high mobility nature, it has become problematic to design an efficient routing protocol in VANETs’ amongst both moving and stationary units. Also, the existing routing algorithms are not very effective to satisfy all requirements of VANETs. This paper explores the need o...

Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) is usually grouped with other similar networks types such as Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) and Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN). All of these types of networks are characterized as self-configuring and infrastructure-less. However, the vehicular nodes in a VANET are highly mobile and the corresponding communication protocols are specified to work up to speeds of...
