چکیده

On the ideal bat, the sweet spot and COP locations would be coincident. This paper presents a combined experimental and finite element study into the relationship amongst the sweet spot, COP and vibration nodes of wood and aluminum baseball bats. Changes in mass distribution, material stiffness and wall thickness are explored to develop a fundamental understanding of the interaction between these changes and the relative locations of the sweet spot and the COP and the resulting batted-ball-speed.

NOTES AND DISCUSSIONS Comment on ‘‘The sweet spot of a baseball bat,’’ by Rod Cross †Am. J. Phys. 66 „9..., 772–779 „1998...‡

Rod Cross has published conclusions concerning the interaction of baseball bats and baseballs that appear to differ in some respects from my own results. Here I attempt to correct, clarify, and reconcile our conclusions. In particular, I address three points, ~1! the position and meaning of the ‘‘sweet spot’’ of the bat, ~2! the time required for the ball–bat impact signal to travel to the hand...

Analysis of Resistance Spot Welding Process Parameters Effect on the Weld Quality of Three-steel Sheets Used in Automotive Industry: Experimental and Finite Element Simulation

In the present research, the effects of spot-welding process parameters on the nugget diameter and electrode penetration depth of spot-welded joints were investigated. To achieve this, a spot-welded joint of three-thin sheet low carbon steels (same thicknesses of 0.8 mm) was simulated as an electerical-thermal-mechanical coupling of 3D finite element model. After validating the finite element s...

Proposed Relationship to Design the Waffle Floor under Harmonic Vertical Loading

The design codes of building are mainly related to the strength of the building and there are no specific codes for the design of building with waffle floors for vibration sensitive equipment. The finite element model, ANSYS, is capable to consider the effects of floor thickness, the size of the bays and stiffness of the columns for analyzing the vibration of the waffle floors and vibration tra...

Simulation and Experimental Study of Vibration and Noise of Pure Electric Bus Transmission based on Finite Element and Boundary Element Methods

Since the electric motor of pure electric vehicle replaced the engine, the "masking effect" disappears, and the problem of vibration and noise of the transmission becomes prominent. This is generated during the gear meshing and is transmitted to the housing through the shaft and bearing. Thereby, radiation noise of the housing are generated. The prediction and analysis...

Finite Element Analysis and Experimental Investigation on the Conventional and Vibration Assisted Drilling

In this research, finite element analysis of the conventional drilling and vibration assisted drilling is carried out. The ABAQUS software is employed for FE analysis. The Johnson-Cook models for both plastic deformation and damage are employed for FE simulation. The results of the FE analysis are then verified with experimental results in both conventional and vibration assisted drilling on Al ...
