Studies on Tick-borne Encephalitis and Other Arthropod-borne Virus Diseases

چکیده
Threa new foci" of TBE virus were found in Lower Austria. In studies eiraed at interrupting the virus cycle in nature Gardens^ was very effective against ticks. Effect of the snail maromal control program in Carinthia ia not yet clear. Attachment of TBE virus to its ruceptor (TPI) is a twostep reaction consisting first of a loose electrostatic and later a stronger binding. TPI inhibits the infectivity for mice of group B but not of group A arbovirusos. Antibodies against TPI were obtained in rabbits. In animal experiments no conclusive evidence was obtained that formation of HNAse is one of the defense mechanisms against arbovirusee. Interferon does not account for the resistance of house mice to fatal TBE. Tilorone (R'HCl protects white mice against TBE. Combined application of this compound with Poly I:C did not improve the results. 320 cases of TBE were diagnosed in Austria. The disease can rapidly be diagnosed by demonstration of IgM-antibodies in the patient's serum with 2-l*lercaptoethanol. Interferon can be demonstrated in the CMS of patients who succumb to TBE provided death occurs soon after onset of disease. Tahyna and Celovo viruses are regularly active on the Eastern side of Neusiedlersee but not on the Western side of the lake. No evidence was found for the hibernation of Tahyna virus in Culex modestus. For the first time antibodies against Tahyna virus wore found in birds (Sturnus vuloaris). hares (Lepus europaeus) are not susceptible to Calowo virus. t M0&*®2&2>t^mi;ix&K ?s-*z «.■r ■

Louping ill virus: an endemic tick-borne disease of Great Britain.
In Europe and Asia, Ixodid ticks transmit tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV), a flavivirus that causes severe encephalitis in humans but appears to show no virulence for livestock and wildlife. In the British Isles, where TBEV is absent, a closely related tick-borne flavivirus, named louping ill virus (LIV), is present. However, unlike TBEV, LIV causes a febrile illness in sheep, cattle, grou...
متن کاملProposal for Sequencing the Genome of the Tick, Ixodes scapularis
This proposal represents the cooperative efforts of the international tick research community to develop the first large scale genomic analysis of a medically significant tick, namely Ixodes scapularis. Ticks transmit the greatest variety of human and animal pathogens of any arthropod vector and are second only to mosquitoes as vectors of human disease (Fivaz et al., 1992; Sonenshine and Mather...
متن کاملVaccination against Mosquito Borne Viral Infections: Current Status
Mosquito borne infectious diseases are among important group of diseases worldwide. Vaccination is available for some tropical mosquito-borne diseases, especially for Japa-nese encephalitis virus infection and yellow fever. There are also several attempts to develop new vaccines for the other mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue infection and West Nile virus infection. In this articl...
متن کاملMay early intervention with high dose intravenous immunoglobulin pose a potentially successful treatment for severe cases of tick-borne encephalitis?
BACKGROUND Arthropod-borne viral encephalitis of diverse origins shows similar clinical symptoms, histopathology and magnetic resonance imaging, indicating that the patho mechanisms may be similar. There is no specific therapy to date. However, vaccination remains the best prophylaxis against a selected few. Regardless of these shortcomings, there are an increasing number of case reports that s...
متن کاملExosomes serve as novel modes of tick-borne flavivirus transmission from arthropod to human cells and facilitates dissemination of viral RNA and proteins to the vertebrate neuronal cells
Molecular determinants and mechanisms of arthropod-borne flavivirus transmission to the vertebrate host are poorly understood. In this study, we show for the first time that a cell line from medically important arthropods, such as ticks, secretes extracellular vesicles (EVs) including exosomes that mediate transmission of flavivirus RNA and proteins to the human cells. Our study shows that tick...
