چکیده

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rare and potentially fatal disorder characterized by abnormal activation of macrophages and occurring in many conditions in all age group. It is also characterized by hemophagocytosis in the bone marrow and in the reticuloendothelial system (RES). The underlying mechanism of acquired HLH is associated with uncontrolled inflammatory reaction which in most cases is triggered by infection or malignancy [1].

Epstein-Barr Virus-Induced Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is one of the complications of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection. Although the patients who have developed HLH following EBV have normal immune system, there are a few patients with EBV-induced immune deficiency who develop HLH as well. Here, we describe the case of a 10-year-old girl with neurological complications caused by EBV-induced HLH. The patien...

Epstein–Barr Virus and Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a ubiquitous virus that infects nearly all people worldwide without serious sequela. However, for patients who have genetic diseases which predispose them to the development of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), EBV infection is a life-threatening problem. As a part of a themed collection of articles on EBV infection and human primary immune deficiencies, we w...

Successful Treatment of Epstein-Barr Virus-Associated Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis with HLH-94 Protocol

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rare, fatal disorder of children, affecting predominantly the mononuclear phagocytic system. Previous reports indicate that Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (EBV-HLH) can also be fatal in many cases, although the prognosis for EBV-HLH is better than for the familial form of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. We...

Atypical Epstein-Barr virus-associated hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis simulating lymphadenitis on 18F-FDG PET/CT and its differential diagnosis.

Diagnosis of Epstein-Barr virus-associated hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (EBV-HLH) is challenging as its clinical presentation is atypical. Here we present a case of atypical EBV-HLH simulating lymphadenitis on fluorrine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT), with a view to consider this kind of EBV-HLH as a possible differential diagnosis ...
