Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis and Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding in Child
نویسندگان
چکیده
Venezuelan equine encephalitis (VEE) is reemerging in Peru. VEE virus subtype ID in Peru has not been previously associated with severe disease manifestations. In 2006, VEE virus subtype ID was isolated from a boy with severe febrile disease and gastrointestinal bleeding; the strain contained 2 mutations within the PE2 region.

Eastern equine encephalomyelitis (EEE), western equine encephalomyelitis (WEE), and Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis (VEE) viruses are mosquito-borne pathogens that can cause nonspecific illnesses and encephalitis in equids (horses, mules, burros, donkeys and zebras) and humans in the Americas. Some of these viruses also affect birds and occasionally other mammals. No specific treatment is a...
متن کاملComplete Coding Sequences of Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus and Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis Virus Strains Isolated from Human Cases
We obtained the complete coding genome of an eastern equine encephalitis virus (EEEV) strain, EEEV V105-00210, and the complete genome of a Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEEV) strain, VEEV INH-9813. They were obtained from human cases and are proposed as reference challenge strains for vaccine and therapeutic development in animal models.
متن کاملVenezuelan Equine Encephalitis Virus Activity in the Gulf Coast Region of Mexico, 2003–2010
Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEEV) has been the causative agent for sporadic epidemics and equine epizootics throughout the Americas since the 1930s. In 1969, an outbreak of Venezuelan equine encephalitis (VEE) spread rapidly from Guatemala and through the Gulf Coast region of Mexico, reaching Texas in 1971. Since this outbreak, there have been very few studies to determine the northwa...
متن کاملNonviable Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis hemagglutinin prepared from tissue cultures by gamma radiation.
Hemagglutinins of Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis virus were produced in tissue cultures, and the infective virus was rendered nonviable by exposure to gamma radiation.
متن کاملEquine Amplification and Virulence of Subtype IE Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis Viruses Isolated during the 1993 and 1996 Mexican Epizootics
To assess the role of horses as amplification hosts during the 1993 and 1996 Mexican Venezuelan equine encephalitis (VEE) epizootics, we subcutaneously infected 10 horses by using four different equine isolates. Most horses showed little or no disease and low or nonexistent viremia. Neurologic disease developed in only 1 horse, and brain histopathologic examination showed meningeal lymphocytic ...
