چکیده

In china, atmospheric storage tanks are not included in the management of special equipment, and therefore they are not required to be inspected compulsorily. There is larger difference between China and developed countries on atmospheric storage tank inspection technique than the other techniques on the inspection of pressure vessels. It is widely believed that the strength worsening and perforation of the tank is mainly caused by the serious corrosion at the bottom surface of tank floor. The present development of nondestructive testing on atmospheric storage tank was analyzed systematically in this paper, in which the principle, present status, the usage of inspection equipments and the application of the magnetic flux leakage testing and acoustic emission testing techniques on atmospheric storage tanks were mainly introduced. The problems existing in the inspection equipments usage were discussed. A practice for inspecting and evaluating atmosphere storage tanks using these testing methods was proposed.

Evaluation of Acoustic Emission Inspection of Oil Tank Floor via Tank Bottom Plates Thickness Measurement

This paper deals with an inspection of defects including corrosion and leakage by Acoustic Emission (AE) in an oil tank floor. In contrast to intrusive methods such as magnetic flux leakage, eddy current or ultrasonic, there is no need to emptying and entering the tank in AE method in order to inspection. In this research AE investigation and AE source location is presented in detail. The resul...

Prediction of fireball consequences caused by Boilover occurrence in the atmospheric storage tanks

Background and Objectives: Although Boilover occurs with a low frequency, but in case of occurrence, it can cause severe damage to people and equipment around the tank. The prediction of the fireball of Boilover phenomenon has an important role to play in adopting appropriate strategies for fire suppression of the atmospheric storage tank. The purpose of this study is to predict the consequence...

Inspection of Internal Tank Welds using the ACFM Inspection Method

This paper describes the application of the ACFM technique for weld inspection and focuses on recent experience in both Europe and Central America in the use of the technique for the inspection of steel storage tanks. Inspection of the tank floor is usually conducted using magnetic flux leakage methods but it is recognised that this cannot be applied to the detection of cracking in the welds jo...

On the Use of Acoustic Emission and Digital Image Correlation for Welded Joints Damage Characterization

A series of tests have been conducted to investigate fatigue damage characterization in corroded welded steel plates using structural health monitoring (SHM) techniques. Acoustic Emission (AE) is a non-destructive testing (NDT) technique with potential applications for locating and monitoring fatigue cracks in service. In the present work, AE is implemented to characterize damage during crack e...
