Geophysical Phenomena and Processes

چکیده
The physical description in itself can be based on the kind of coupling being involved (i.e., thermal, gravitational, electromagnetic, or by matter exchange). Gravitational coupling is related to celestial mechanics and tidal deformation. Thermal coupling is ultimately concerned with energy balance. Matter exchange is concerned with the interaction between contiguous systems, and particularly important when considering boundary phenomena, typical of the environment of the biosphere, that occur between atmosphere, ocean, and solid earth. Electromagnetic coupling is concerned with both shortand long-range interactions, from solar wind through to the deep earth, and including huge electric circuits through the sun–solar wind–magnetosphere–ionosphere; their coupling with deep telluric currents and earth’s dynamo; and friction phenomena and the global atmospheric electric circuit, which should explain:

Wavelet Analysis for Geophysical Applications
Wavelet transforms originated in geophysics in the early 1980s for the analysis of seismic signals. Since then, significant mathematical advances in wavelet theory have enabled a suite of applications in diverse fields. In geophysics the power of wavelets for analysis of nonstationary processes that contain multiscale features, detection of singularities, analysis of transient phenomena, fracta...

Geophysical and ecological dynamics within lakes of the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica, are controlled by the presence of permanent ice covers. Despite the importance of the permanent ice cover, there have been no studies that have examined specific couplings between changes in the geophysical properties of the ice covers and dynamic ecological processes within the underlying water column. Her...
متن کاملA Hybrid Object-based/Pixel-based Classification Approach to Detect Geophysical Phenomena
Geophysical phenomena are observable events with spatiotemporal characteristics. These phenomena can have spatial extent and shape but the intensities are generally not homogeneous within this spatial extent. These phenomena also evolve, grow and perish over time. Therefore, developing a robust detection algorithm for geophysical phenomena is difficult and challenging. This paper presents a hyb...
متن کاملPreface Fractals in geophysics
Geophysical phenomena of interest to geoscientists include both atmospheric and terrestrial related processes, which can be either static or dynamic. Characterization of such phenomena requires advanced models which often include scale invariance concepts of fractal or multi-fractal type. Recently, there has been much interdisciplinary interest in the application of geophysical processes. The a...
متن کاملGeophysical Observatory in Kamchatka region for monitoring of phenomena connected with seismic activity
Regular monitoring of some geophysical parameters in association with seismicity has been carried out since last year at the Japan-Russian Complex Geophysical Observatory in the Kamchatka region. This observatory was organized in connection with the ISTC project in Russia and was motivated by the results of the FRONTIER/RIKEN and FRONTIER/NASDA research projects in Japan. The main purpose of th...
متن کاملEarthquake Precursors Assessment in Vrancea Area, Romania by Satellite and Geophysical In-situ Data
Earthquake prediction has two potentially compatible but distinctly different objectives: (a) phenomena that provide information about the future earthquake hazard useful to those who live in earthquake-prone regions and (b) phenomena causally related to the physical processes governing failure on a fault that will improve our understanding of those processes. For seismic hazard analysis in Vra...
