Constructing Complex Brains

چکیده
The World-Wide-Mind (WWM) is an architecture that facilitates the construction of complex “minds” (software solutions) for virtual agents in online virtual environments (software problems). These complex minds are constructed by re-using third party sub-minds remotely through the world wide web by hosting both the mind and environment online. Until now there has been no successful language independent framework for reusing complete or partial solutions by third party authors in the construction of more diverse and complex solutions. The WWM architecture attempts to provide such a framework. This paper describes an ongoing project that uses WWM technology to develop a novel set of minds that incorporate a range of algorithms and techniques. We demonstrate that it is possible to evolve superior minds by the artificial selection and combination of existing online minds. The project that is described here involved 8 authors who developed 8 different minds for the virtual animal in a re-implementation of Tyrrell’s Simulated Environment (Tyrrell, 1993). These 8 authors were from a biotechnology background and were enrolled on a postgraduate masters course in bioinformatics. The minds created by these authors were subsequently selected based on their performance in the virtual world, and integrated into larger minds. Since a huge number of combinations of minds are possible, it is important that the work is distributed among a community of researchers. The architecture of the World-Wide-Mind makes this possible

A clutter $mathcal{C}$ with vertex set $[n]$ is an antichain of subsets of $[n]$, called circuits, covering all vertices. The clutter is $d$-uniform if all of its circuits have the same cardinality $d$. If $mathbb{K}$ is a field, then there is a one-to-one correspondence between clutters on $V$ and square-free monomial ideals in $mathbb{K}[x_1,ldots,x_n]$ as follows: To each clutter $mathcal{C}...

The convoluted cortex of primates is instantly recognizable in its principal morphologic features, yet puzzling in its complex finer structure. Various hypotheses have been proposed about the mechanisms of its formation. Based on the analysis of databases of quantitative architectonic and connection data for primate prefrontal cortices, we offer support for the hypothesis that tension exerted b...

Background & Aims of the Study: Welder’s exposure to welding fumes can cause occupational diseases. The current study sought to examine exposure to welding fumes among welders who work in the repair shop of Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex and design a local exhaust ventilation system to control exposure to welding fumes. Materials & Methods: This applied analytical study was co...
متن کاملSimple Agents Benefit Only from Simple Brains
In order to answer the general question: “What does a simple agent with a limited life-time require for constructing a useful representation of the environment?” we propose a robot platform including the simplest probabilistic sensory and motor layers. Then we use the platform as a test-bed for evaluation of the navigational capabilities of the robot with different “brains”. We claim that a pro...

متن کاملFunction of mitochondrial complex-I and -IV in normal human and Parkinson's disease cybrids
Mitochondrial dysfunction has been implicated in the dopaminergic neurodegeneration, which characterizes Parkinson’s disease (PD). The activities of mitochondrial complexes I and IV were found to be reduced in the brains of PD patients (n = 4) as compared to age-matched controls (n = 4). This is tested in SH-SY5Y cell lines, transformed Rho0 cells, and in normal and PD cybrid cell lines. Cybrid...
