Analysis of linear turbo equalizer via EXIT chart
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, we propose a method for analysis of linear turbo equalization based on extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) charts. Given channel knowledge and therefore the optimum linear equalizer coefficients, evolution of soft information of the soft-input soft-output (SISO) equalizer can be estimated via computing bit error rates (BER) analytically. Compared to conventional analysis methods, the proposed method predicts the linear turbo equalizer performance without running extensive simulations to obtain the SISO equalizer EXIT charts. Using an empirically generated SISO decoder EXIT chart, convergence analysis can be undertaken. Further, the method provides a bound on the achievable BER for given channels and an estimate of equalizer complexity. These approximate analyses are validated via computer simulations.

Convergence Analysis for Linear Turbo Equalization
Absfracl-In this paper, we propose a method for analysis of linear turbo equalization that makes use of extrinsic information transfer (EXIT) charts. Given channel knowledge and a timeinvariant set oi linear equalizer coefficients, evolution of soft information in the soft-input soft-output (SISO) equalizer can be estimated via analytically measuring the mutual inionnation between the transmitt...
متن کاملPerformance Limits of Turbo Equalization Using M-BCJR Algorithm
We study the performance limits of turbo equalization when the M -BCJR algorithm is used as the soft-in soft-out equalizer. We show through analysis based on EXIT charts that the M -BCJR equalizer can provide performance very close to that of the BCJR equalizer with considerably reduced complexity. We show that the current practice of using the output of the equalizer directly as a posteriori p...
متن کاملImproved Performance of the MMSE Linear Equalizer in Turbo Equalization by the use of Extrinsic Feedback Information
This paper presents a general structure for Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) equalizers from which we can derive instances such as the: two proposed Linear Equalizers with Extrinsic Feedback (LE-EF), Linear Equalizer (LE) and Decision Feedback Equalizer (DFE). The Extrinsic Information Transfer (EXIT) chart was used to analyze the two proposed MMSE LE-EF receivers and their characteristics was ...
متن کاملExit Chart Analysis Applied to Adaptive Turbo Equalization
In this paper we consider iterative channel estimation, equalization, and decoding, or adaptive Turbo equalization, as a receiver technology for digital communication systems where the channel imposes time-varying intersymbol interference. We show how a semianalytical technique called EXIT charts, originally developed by S. ten Brink for analysis of Turbo codes, can be used to predict the perfo...
متن کاملDesign Rules for Adaptive Turbo Equalization in Fast-Fading Channels
This paper uses the mutual information (MI) transfer metric to characterize the behavior of an adaptive turbo equalization scheme. We consider recursive systematic convolutional coding at the input to a multipath fastfading channel. The equalizer is a recent adaptive, nearoptimal APP algorithm that incorporates MMSE channel estimation. We develop design rules for this turbo equalizer using EXIT...
