چکیده

Results The mRNA expressions of all the 4 cytokines in HIV-1 infected individuals were significantly higher compared to healthy controls (p value range 0.0004-0.01). The mean level of IL-10, INF-gamma and TNF alpha were higher in HIV infected individuals with low CD4 counts (<300 cells/μL). The IL-10 expression showed a significant negative correlation with CD4 counts (r = -0.25, p = 0.04) while IL-21 showed a positive correlation with CD4 counts (r = 0.26, p = 0.03). There was significant negative correlation between the CMV viral load and IL-21 expression.

Spectrum of Opportunistic Fungal Infections in HIV-Infected Patients and Their Correlation with CD4+ Counts in Western India

Introduction : The decreased level of immunity in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infected patients increases their vulnerability to various opportunistic fungal infections. Oral candidiasis has been found to be the most common fungal infection among HIV infected patients. The present study was conducted to evaluate the spectrum of various opportunistic fungal infections and their correlat...

Frequency of Candida species isolated from the Oral Cavity of HIV-Infected Patients referring to Behavioral disease Counseling Center of Isfahan in 2017-2018

Background and Aim: patients infected with HIV are susceptible to opportunistic infections such as candidiasis. In normal individuals, Candida spp. exist as normal flora of the mucous membranes.  In this study we compared the frequencies of different species of Candida between HIV infected patients receiving anti-retroviral therapy (ART) and normal individuals. Materials and Methods: This case...

Subtype & cytokine profiles of HIV infected individuals from south India.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE The global surveillance of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) subtypes (clades) helps understand the global distribution and incidence of different HIV subtypes. As knowledge about subtypes circulating in an area is needed for developing a candidate vaccine, prevalence of the subtypes HIV-1 and HIV-2 were studied in south India. The profile of cytokines interleukin 10 (IL...

Detection of opportunistic DNA viral infections by multiplex PCR among HIV infected individuals receiving care at a tertiary care hospital in South India.

PURPOSE Opportunistic viral infections cause increased morbidity and mortality among human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected individuals, especially those who are not on antiretroviral treatment. Early diagnosis of these opportunistic viruses will be able to reduce the risk of disease progression with appropriate intervention. MATERIALS AND METHODS Multiplex PCR was attempted to detect th...

The epidemiology and clinical correlates of HIV-1 co-receptor tropism in non-subtype B infections from India, Uganda and South Africa

BACKGROUND The introduction of C-C chemokine receptor type-5 (CCR5) antagonists as antiretroviral therapy has led to the need to study HIV co-receptor tropism in different HIV-1 subtypes and geographical locations. This study was undertaken to evaluate HIV-1 co-receptor tropism in the developing world where non-B subtypes predominate, in order to assess the therapeutic and prophylactic potentia...
