FireWire (Pro-)Audio for Linux

FireWire audio devices are flooding the (semi-)pro audio interface market. At LAC2005, the FreeBoB project has been presented, aiming to implement support for devices built on top of the BridgeCo BeBoB platform. This paper discusses the evolution of the FreeBoB project towards a framework generic enough to support a virtually any FireWire based audio device, BeBoB based or not, conforming to the 'official' standards or not. An overview of the design and implementation of the library is presented, and some key issues and their solutions are described.
