Probabilistic Aspects of Computer Science: Markovian Models

نویسنده

  • S. Haddad
چکیده

These lecture notes present four Markovian models: discrete time Markov chains (DTMC), continous time Markov chains (CTMC), Markov decision processes (MDP) and probabilistic automata (PA). It is addressed for master students and tries as most as possible to be self-contained. However the basics of discrete probability (and additionally the basics of measure and integration for the study of CTMC) are required. Recommended books for french speaking students are [FOA 98, FOA 02]. There are a lot of good books for english speaking students.

Modeling and Evaluation of Stochastic Discrete-Event Systems with RayLang Formalism

In recent years, formal methods have been used as an important tool for performance evaluation and verification of a wide range of systems. In the view points of engineers and practitioners, however, there are still some major difficulties in using formal methods. In this paper, we introduce a new formal modeling language to fill the gaps between object-oriented programming languages (OOPLs) us...

Monte Carlo Simulation to Compare Markovian and Neural Network Models for Reliability Assessment in Multiple AGV Manufacturing System

We compare two approaches for a Markovian model in flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) using Monte Carlo simulation. The model which is a development of Fazlollahtabar and Saidi-Mehrabad (2013), considers two features of automated flexible manufacturing systems equipped with automated guided vehicle (AGV) namely, the reliability of machines and the reliability of AGVs in a multiple AGV jobsho...

A survey of modal logics characterising behavioural equivalences for non-deterministic and stochastic systems

Behavioral equivalences are a means to establish whether computing systems possess the same properties. The specific set of properties that are preserved by a specific behavioral equivalence clearly depends on how the system behavior is observed and can usually be characterized by means of a modal logic. In this paper we consider three different approaches to the definition of behavioral equiva...

A discrete time model for performance evaluation and correctness verification of real time systems

In the development of reactive systems, correctness and performance requirements are often intertwined. An integral approach to both the aspects of the problem requires models and analysis techniques which jointly capture probabilistic and minimum/maximum characterization of time delays. A discrete time extension of Time Petri Nets is introduced, which extends minimum/maximum timing constraints...
