چکیده

We consider the classical optical ow algorithm due to Horn and Schunck for estimating the motion of brightness patterns between image pairs. We use a modi-ed smoothness condition based on the divergence and curl of the velocity eld. In previous work, we have developed well-posed stochastic state-space models for these optical ow methods in two dimensions. This paper extends our results to 3-D. We rst show that by using the rst order DIV-CURL spline, it is not possible to obtain a rst order linear diierential well-posed model in 3-D. Next, we employ the second order DIV-CURL spline smoothness condition and develop well-posed state-space models.

Variational Estimation of Experimental Fluid Flows with Physics-Based Spatio-Temporal Regularization

We present a variational approach to motion estimation of instationary experimental fluid flows from image sequences. Our approach extends prior work along two directions: (i) The full incompressible Navier-Stokes equation is employed in order to obtain a physically consistent regularization which does not suppress turbulent variations of flow estimates. (ii) Regularization along the time-axis ...

On-Line Variational Estimation of Dynamical Fluid Flows with Physics-Based Spatio-temporal Regularization

A Fluid Motion Estimator for Schlieren Image Velocimetry

In this paper, we address the problem of estimating the motion of fluid flows that are visualized through a Schlieren system. Such a system is well known in fluid mechanics as it enables the visualization of unseeded flows. As the resulting images exhibit very low photometric contrasts, classical motion estimation methods based on the brightness consistency assumption (correlation-based approac...

Dense Estimation of Fluid Flows

ÐIn this paper, we address the problem of estimating and analyzing the motion of fluids in image sequences. Due to the great deal of spatial and temporal distortions that intensity patterns exhibit in images of fluids, the standard techniques from Computer Vision, originally designed for quasi-rigid motions with stable salient features, are not well adapted in this context. We thus investigate ...

9th International Symposium on Flow Visualisation, 2000 Adaptation of Standard Optic Flow Methods to Fluid Motion

In this paper, we address the problem of fluid motion estimation in image sequences. For such motions, standard dense motion estimation methods, based on intensity conservation and spatial coherence of motion field, are not suitable. This is due to the highly deformable nature of fluid medium. For all applications where fluid motions are to be recovered from images, it is then important to have...
