Gamete preservation.

چکیده
With the increase in survivorship following cancer for women in their reproductive years, as well as an increase in survivorship with childhood cancers, there is a demand for perfecting current fertility preservation methods and generating new options for patients who are unable to pursue the conventional course of fertility treatments. Cryopreservation using a slow-cooling method for embryos is currently the standard-of-care for women wishing to preserve their fertility; other options, such as oocyte cryopreservation and embryo vitrification, have become increasingly accepted methods of fertility preservation. As important as oocyte and embryo cryopreservation methods are for preserving fertility, some patients may be too sick or too young to undergo fertility treatments or have hormone-sensitive cancers that preclude standard approaches; therefore, other preservation options must be explored. Ovarian tissue cryopreservation followed by ovarian tissue transplant and follicle cryopreservation followed by in vitro follicle maturation are experimental techniques that have shown promising results. This chapter will discuss current methods of gamete preservation as well as new, experimental options to preserve immature gametes. An overview of ovarian biology, as well as the science of cryobiology, is discussed to help the reader better understand the circumstances under which different techniques may be used.

I-12: Optimal Strategy toward Fertility Preservation: In Vivo and In Vitro Post-Thaw Options in Gamete, Embryo and Ovarian Tissue Cryostorage
Background: Oocyte, embryo and ovarian tissue cryopreservation are proposed for fertility preservation to cancer patients who hope to be mothers after getting rid of the disease. Materials and Methods: Embryo cryopreservation is not possible for unmarried single girls without sperm partner and oocyte retrieval is a long time procedure. Thus ovarian tissue cryopreservation is suggested for ferti...
متن کاملI-11: Optimal Strategy Toward Fertility Preservation
Background There are several indications of human female gamete cryostorage including sub-fertile and fertile patients. But our focus will be in women at risk of losing their reproductive function caused by oncologycal treatments or premature ovarian failure that could benefit greatly from this practice. Fertile women may take advantage of this technology to electively delay childbearing. The o...
متن کاملTechnical and ethical challenges of fertility preservation in young cancer patients.
As cancer treatment improves, more young men and women survive, but they suffer from infertility as a major sequel of cancer treatment. Gamete and embryo cryopreservation are the only options available to these patients for preserving their fertility. Although cryopreservation of spermatozoa and embryos are already established, oocyte banking is still experimental. The advent of testicular tiss...
متن کاملI-25: Gamete Cryopreservation for Cancer Patients,Ethical Considerations
Cancer patients often receive gonadotoxic treatments, such as radiation or certain chemotherapies. The doses and regimens used for treatment vary in different individuals and cancers. Recent progress has improved the survival rates of patients with cancer, often using highly aggressive therapies and combinations. This results in growing numbers of cancer survivors, some of whom will be sterile ...

This four-document series was created to facilitate improved education and communication for fertility preservation in adolescent and young adult Canadians with a new diagnosis of cancer. The present review outlines gonadal protection options and fertility-sparing strategies for the young cancer patient. Cryopreservation and later use of gamete and gonadal tissue will be addressed in a subseque...
