چکیده

Fermi coordinates are the natural generalization of inertial Cartesian coordinates to accelerated systems and gravitational fields. We study the motion of ultrarelativistic particles and light rays in Fermi coordinates and investigate inertial and tidal effects beyond the critical speed c/ √ 2. In particular, we discuss the blackhole tidal acceleration mechanism for ultrarelativistic particles in connection with a possible origin for high-energy cosmic rays. PACS numbers: 04.20.Cv

Tidal Dynamics of Relativistic Flows Near Black Holes

We point out novel consequences of general relativity involving tidal dynamics of ultrarelativistic relative motion. Specifically, we use the generalized Jacobi equation and its extension to study the force-free dynamics of relativistic flows near a massive rotating source. We show that along the rotation axis of the gravitational source, relativistic tidal effects strongly decelerate an initia...

Tidal effects on magnetic gyration of a charged particle in Fermi coordinates

We examine gyration motion of a charged particle viewed from a reference observer falling along Z axis into Schwarzschild black hole. The magnetic field is assumed to be constant and uniform along Z axis. The motion far from the gravitational source is circular in X-Y plane. Fate of the circular orbit is calculated as the reference observer approaches the black hole. The circular orbit is event...

Fermi-normal, optical, and wave-synchronous coordinates for spacetime with a plane gravitational wave

Fermi-normal (FN) coordinates provide a standardized way to describe the effects of gravitation from the point of view of an inertial observer. These coordinates have always been introduced via perturbation expansions and were usually limited to distances much less than the characteristic length scale set by the curvature of spacetime. For a plane gravitational wave this scale is given by its w...

Tidal Acceleration of Ultrarelativistic Particles

We investigate the motion of free relativistic particles relative to the ambient medium around a gravitationally collapsed system. If the relative speed exceeds a critical value given by c/ √ 2, the gravitational tidal effects exhibit novel features that are contrary to Newtonian expectations. In particular, ultrarelativistic jet clumps moving freely outward along the rotation axis strongly dec...

Effects of Space-Time Curvature on Spin-1/2 Particle Zitterbewegung

Abstract. This paper investigates the properties of spin-1/2 particle Zitterbewegung in the presence of a general curved space-time background described in terms of Fermi normal co-ordinates, where the spatial part is expressed using general curvilinear co-ordinates. Adopting the approach first introduced by Barut and Bracken for Zitterbewegung in the local rest frame of the particle, it is sho...
