چکیده

The cerebral circulation was studied on 40 clinical cases which underwent open heart surgery under extracorporeal circulation by the low flow rate-hypothermic-hemodilution technique, by means of Kr85, opthalmoscope, blood gas and pH, and cerebral metabolism. Cerebral blood flow decreased to 65.2 per cent of the control value after the start of extracorporeal bypass, but recovered by the later period of total perfusion, and then exceeded the control value during the rewarming and partial perfusion. Cerebral metabolism was lowered to 37 per cent of the control ''alue during the total perfusion, but recovered during the rewarming perfusion. It was pointed out that the findings of the retina were useful to assess the adequacy of the cerebral hemodynamics during the bypass. The present technique of extracorporeal circulation in this department of surgery was concluded to be adequate for the cerebral circulation.

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation

Cerebral perfusion temperatures during antegrade cerebral perfusion and their affect on cerebral metabolism and neurological outcomes are evaluated in this study. Young piglets were subjected to a period of hypothermic circulatory arrest at 20°C using alphastat pH management. Four study groups were then assigned to differing temperatures of selective cerebral perfusion. Lower perfusion temperat...

Tracheal Chondrosarcoma Excised With Extracorporeal Circulation

Introduction: Tracheal chondrosarcoma (TCS) is a rare malignancy, with only 19 cases described in the literature to date. Case presentation: Herein, we presented the third-largest TCS with such an airway compromise that neither orotracheal intubation nor jet ventilation or even tracheostomy was possible. So, extracorporeal circulation was needed to excise the tumor in a one-stage procedure. Th...

Hemodynamic and metabolic parameters during prolonged cardiac arrest and reperfusion by extracorporeal circulation.

Extracorporeal membranous oxygenation (ECMO) is increasingly used in the management of refractory cardiac arrest. Our aim was to investigate early effects of ECMO after prolonged cardiac arrest. In fully anesthetized swine (48 kg, N=18) ventricular fibrillation (VF) was induced and untreated period (20 min) of cardiac arrest commenced, followed by 60 min extracorporeal reperfusion (ECMO flow 10...

A comparative study between hypothermic and normothermic cardiopulmonary bypass in open heart surgery in dogs--effects on systemic hemodynamics.

Open heart surgery was performed on two groups of dogs under extracorporeal circulation with or without hypothermia to investigate hemodynamic changes during extracorporeal circulation. During hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), arterial O2 tension and postoperative blood pressure were favorably maintained, indicating that hypothermic extracorporeal circulation can be performed for a long...
