چکیده
This paper introduces CARS, an open source driving simulator tool for evaluating driver distraction. We present the map editor, the driving simulation tool and the analysis tool included in CARS. Based on initial results from initial user studies we illustrate the effectiveness of CARS in evaluating different secondary tasks (e.g., compare different UIs for navigation systems) with regard to driver distraction.

Evaluation of Impacts of It-incidents on Automotive Safety with Regard to Supporting Reaction Strategies for the Driver
The integration of modern IT technologies into vehicles brings up several new challenges in automotive systems engineering. While current technology aspires an exclusive use of electrical and electronic control systems for relevant functions, such as engine control or X-by-wire systems, growing dependency on electronic systems increases the vulnerability of modern cars to both accidental and in...
متن کاملAutomotive Applications of Solar Energy
There is an increasing awareness about the need to achieve a more sustainable mobility, both among specialists and in public opinion, and about the opportunities given by renewable sources. In last years, increasing efforts are being spent towards the application of solar energy to electric and hybrid cars, also thanks to the advances in photovoltaic technology and to their growing diffusion fo...
متن کاملThe disruptive impact of digitalization on the automotive ecosystem: a research agenda on business models, platforms and consumer issues
Digital technologies are transforming the automotive industry, and disrupting traditional business models based on ownership of cars. With the emergence of connected cars, mobility services and servitization, questions arise on how these enabling technologies affect the ecosystem. In this paper, we propose a research agenda for the digitalized automotive ecosystem. In this research agenda we ra...
متن کاملAnalysis, Resynthesis, and Interpolation of the Interior Noise of a Car
The aim of this work was to develop a realtime simulator for vehicle interior noise in varying load situations. Using this simulator, laboratory hearing tests which are common in the automotive industry may be executed more realistically than by using recorded sounds without any interaction possibility. A simplified model for the load situation of a car is presented. Using this model, the inter...
متن کاملUnified Driver Model simulation and its application to the automotive, rail and maritime domains
This paper describes the implementation of a model of a driver into a computerised numerical simulation. The model is developed to capture the essential characteristics and common aspects of cognition and behaviour of a human being in control of a “vehicle” in different surface transport systems, namely trains, cars and ships. The main functions of the simulation are discussed as well as the ex...
