High Field Approximations of the SphericalHarmonics Expansion
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present an asymptotic analysis (with the scaled mean free path as small parameter) of the spherical-harmonics expansion (SHE-) model for semiconductors in the case of a large electric eld. The Hilbert and Chapman-Enskog expansions are performed and the dependence of macro-scopic parameter-functions such as the mobility and the diiusivity on the details of the considered elastic and inelastic scattering processes are investigated. For example, we verify so called velocity-saturation mobility models, so far obtained by heuristic considerations, by means of an asymptotic analysis for certain scattering processes.

متن کاملAnalysis of High-order Approximations by Spectral Interpolation Applied to One- and Two-dimensional Finite Element Method
The implementation of high-order (spectral) approximations associated with FEM is an approach to overcome the difficulties encountered in the numerical analysis of complex problems. This paper proposes the use of the spectral finite element method, originally developed for computational fluid dynamics problems, to achieve improved solutions for these types of problems. Here, the interpolation n...
متن کاملDynamic Response of Submerged Vertical Cylinder with Lumped Mass under Seismic Excitation
An analytical approach is presented to assess the response of offshore structures under seismic excitation. This paper evaluates the impacts of different fluid field models and the mass of equipment at the top of offshore structure which is simulated as lumped mass on the responses of offshore structures. To do this, two and three dimensional fluid field models are developed. In three dimension...
متن کاملA Numerical Study of the Validity of Shallow Ice Approximations
Improving numerical ice sheet models is a very active field of research. In part, this is because ice sheet modelling has gained societal relevance in the context of predictions of future sea level rise. Ice sheet modelling is however also a challenging mathematical and computational subject. Since the exact equations governing ice dynamics, the full Stokes equations, are computationally expens...
