Zheng Wang Jon Crowcroft Department of Computer Science, University College London London WC1E 6BT, United Kingdom Abstract This paper considers the use of prefetching in WWW for reducing perceived latency. We rst look at a number of basic issues and tradeo in prefetching. Our analysis shows that, unless the tra c is very light or the prefetching e ciency is very high, statistical prefetching may not necessarily reduce perceived delay. We then present an implementation of deterministic prefetching in a hotlist manager.
