چکیده

The rapid growth of interconnected computer networks has generated a lot of interest in migrating the distributed systems to a wide area network (WAN) environment, such as the Internet. We have developed mechanisms for studying the performance of the distributed transaction processing on the Internet, without actually having to move the database sites to remote Internet hosts. We have conducted experimental studies to analyze and understand the behavior of this transition on various transaction processing algorithms, such as concurrency control and atomicity control algorithms. The throughput, per-transaction response time, and abort rate of an industrial standard benchmark transactions have been measured and evaluated. We conclude that the optimization of the number of messages for atom-icity control is the single most important criteria for eeectiveness of the algorithm in the Internet environment. We also suggest some directions for improvement of both the communication facilities and the transaction processing algorithms.

The Design and the Implementation of a Dostp - a Distributed Object Oriented System Based on Transactions Processing

This paper presents an experimental object oriented system that provides operating system level support for distributed transactions that operate on share objects. Transactions are a common construct that distributed programming environments provide in order to maintain the consistency of distributed information in the presence of partial failure and concurrency. The goal of constructing a tran...

Proper integration time of polarization signals of internetwork regions using Sunrise/IMaX data

Distribution of magnetic fields in the quiet-Sun internetwork areas has been affected by weak polarization (in particular Stokes Q and U) signals. To improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the weak polarization signals, several approaches, including temporal integrations, have been proposed in the literature. In this study, we aim to investigate a proper temporal-integration time with which...

Scaling and Characterizing Database Workloads: Bridging the Gap between Research and Practice

On-Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) workloads are crucial benchmarks for the design and analysis of server processors. Typical cached configurations used by researchers to simulate OLTP workloads are orders of magnitude smaller than the fully scaled configurations used by OEM vendors to achieve world-record transaction processing throughput. The objective of this study is to discover the unde...

A Bilevel Scheduling Approach for Modeling Energy Transaction of Virtual Power Plants in Distribution Networks

By increasing the use of distributed generation (DG) in the distribution network operation, an entity called virtual power plant (VPP) has been introduced to control, dispatch and aggregate the generation of DGs, enabling them to participate either in the electricity market or the distribution network operation. The participation of VPPs in the electricity market has made challenges to fairly a...

Distributed Transaction Processing on an Ordering Network

The increasing demand for high throughputs in transaction processing systems leads to high degrees of transaction concurrency and hence high data contention. The conventional dynamic two-phase locking (2PL) concurrency control (CC) technique causes system thrashing at high data contention levels, restricting transaction throughput. Optimistic concurrency control (OCC) is an alternative strategy...
