چکیده

1. Heat killed organisms of the MS (OH), MR (ØH), NS (O) or NR (Ø) forms of hog cholera bacilli failed to confer immunity, at least to any considerable degree, in hamsters or rabbits against virulent hog cholera bacilli. 2. Hamsters and rabbits were successfully immunized against virulent MS bacilli by vaccination with living MR (ØH) and NR (Ø) forms. 3. Hamsters were immunized against MS hog cholera bacilli with living R paratyphoid "C" bacilli and conversely against MS paratyphoid "C" bacilli with living R hog cholera bacilli.

A Comparative Study of the Biological Characters and Pathogenesis of Bacillus X (sternberg), Bacillus Icteroides (sanarelli), and the Hog-cholera Bacillus (salmon and Smith)

1. Bacillus X (Sternberg) belongs to the colon group. 2. Bacillus icteroides (Sanarelli) is a member of the hog-cholera group. 3. The various channels of infection, the duration of the disease and the gross and microscopical lesions in mice, guinea-pigs and rabbits are the same for Bacillus icteroides and the hog-cholera bacillus. 4. The clinical symptoms and the lesions observed in dogs inocul...

A Study of Paratyphoid Bacilli Isolated from Cases of Hog-cholera

During the course of some experimental work on hog-cholera, paratyphoid bacilli were isolated from 16 per cent of the pigs. Culturally these organisms are the same as paratyphoid 18 isolated from man, while they show several differences from hog-cholera bacilli. In their slight pathogenic effect on rabbits they also differ from the hog-cholera bacillus. In their agglutination in sera produced b...

Bacilli of the Hog-cholera Group (bacillus Choleræ Suis) in Man

1. The organisms isolated by Hirschfeld from febrile cases resembling paratyphoid fever and named Paratyphoid C can be placed in the hog-cholera bacillus group by their agglutination absorption properties though they are not typical culturally. 2. When fed to a pig a febrile disease resulted from which the animal recovered. After injection of hog-cholera virus the organisms fed were found gener...

A Non-gas-producing Strain of the Hog-cholera Bacillus Isolated from an Old Laboratory Culture

In a stock culture of the hog-cholera bacillus, which was passed through a series of rabbits 14 years ago, an organism was found that differs from the original culture in that it fails to form gas from the carbohydrates that are usually attacked by this organism, while acid formation persists. This new strain is agglutinated by an anti-hog-cholera bacillus serum and produces in rabbits and mice...

Variations in the Plasma Cholesterol and Cholesterol Ester Content in Hog Cholera

1. The plasma cholesterol and cholesterol ester content of swine, experimentally infected with hog cholera, exhibit a regular succession of changes. During the period of incubation of the disease, for 3 or more days following inoculation with hog cholera virus, hypocholesterolemia prevails. This is followed by a period of hypercholesterolemia which is coincident with the onset of the clinical m...
