چکیده

T. J. Eggebraaten J. W. Tenner J. C. Dubbels The integration of medical information from various sources is gaining in importance as hospitals and medical research centers attempt to gain new insights into existing data. The Health Level Sevent (HL7t) organization has developed an abstract information model for health-care data, the HL7 Reference Information Model (RIM). We describe in this paper our approach to implementing a physical data model based on RIM. Our approach, which combines elements of entity-relationship data modeling and entity-attribute-value data modeling, involves the modeling of base RIM classes, RIM inheritance, and RIM data types. We incorporated the resulting data model into IBM Clinical Genomics, a product that integrates clinical and genomic data in a way that enables medical researchers to carry out clinical research.

Using features of Arden Syntax with object-oriented medical data models for guideline modeling

Computer-interpretable guidelines (CIGs) can deliver patient-specific decision support at the point of care. CIGs base their recommendations on eligibility and decision criteria that relate medical concepts to patient data. CIG models use expression languages for specifying these criteria, and define models for medical data to which the expressions can refer. In developing version 3 of the Guid...

Actions in Health Care Organizations: An Ontological Analysis

In order to ensure that the information and knowledge needed for the management of healthcare is appropriately shared, human behavior within health care organizations (HCOs) needs to be carefully analyzed. Hence, guidelines, protocols, and messaging standards must be combined with models of resources and processes of patient care that are based on a sound ontology of organizations. This require...

Enabling the Semantic Reasoning in the Health Level 7 Clinical Document using the Web Ontology Language

The Health Level 7 (HL7) organization [1] has developed the Clinical Document Architecture’s (CDA) [2], an XMLbased document based on the Reference Information Model (RIM) [1], to provide a structure for clinical data exchange. The XML Schema Definition (XSD) language has been used to describe the CDA’s components and as a basis for the semantic conversion. Expressed in the Web Ontology Languag...

An HL7-CDA wrapper for facilitating semantic interoperability to rule-based Clinical Decision Support Systems

The success of Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) greatly depends on its capability of being integrated in Health Information Systems (HIS). Several proposals have been published up to date to permit CDSS gathering patient data from HIS. Some base the CDSS data input on the HL7 reference model, however, they are tailored to specific CDSS or clinical guidelines technologies, or do not focu...
