Salmin The geographical location of Morocco places it at the heart of important sea, air, rail and motorway transport routes between four continents. In this study we evaluate different alternatives to centralize multimodal cargo at a Moroccan airport hub. The choice depends on different socio-economical criteria, the geographical location, and the environmental impacts. Some of the criteria can be measured quantitatively, while for others only qualitative assessment is feasible. Furthermore, significant uncertainty is present in both the criteria measurements and the preferences. We aided this decision process using Stochastic Multicriteria Acceptability Analysis (SMAA). SMAA is a method that allows the representation of a mixture of different kinds of uncertain, imprecise and partially missing information in a consistent way. The results indicated that two of the alternatives, Benslimane and Casablanca, were superior. As a result of the analysis, the National Airport Authority of Morocco started negotiations with investors to develop the hub at Benslimane. 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A Method for Elicitating and Combining Group Preferences for Stochastic Multicriteria Acceptability Analysis A Method for Elicitating and Combining Group Preferences for Stochastic Multicriteria Acceptability Analysis

Stochastic Multicriteria Acceptability Analysis (SMAA) is a family of methods to aid decision makers (DMs) in discrete decision making problems. SMAA methods are capable of handling preference information of various types. The imprecise preferences of multiple DMs can for example be represented by a joint probability distribution for criteria weights. Dempster-Shafer theory with Analytic Hierar...

The use of the SMAA acceptability index in descriptive decision analysis

This paper proposes and evaluates a descriptive multiattribute choice model based upon the notion of acceptability developed in the stochastic multicriteria acceptability analysis (SMAA) methods. The acceptability index is simply the relative proportion of all possible preference structures that support the selection of a particular alternative, and is related to a model of choice in which attr...

A simulation-based test of stochastic multicriteria acceptability analysis using achievement functions

Stochastic multicriteria acceptability analysis using achievement functions (SMAAA) is a preference model for discrete-choice decision making that inverts the traditional goal programming process by asking what combinations of aspirations are necessary to make each alternative the preferred one, rather than what alternative is preferred given a set of aspirations. In this paper, we test the abi...

Using Multicriteria Decision Analysis to Support Research Priority Setting in Biomedical Translational Research Projects

Translational research is conducted to achieve a predefined set of economic or societal goals. As a result, investment decisions on where available resources have the highest potential in achieving these goals have to be made. In this paper, we first describe how multicriteria decision analysis can assist in defining the decision context and in ensuring that all relevant aspects of the decision...

Identifying Compromise Alternatives in Group Decision-making by Using Stochastic Multiobjective Acceptability Analysis

Stochastic multiobjective acceptability analysis (SMAA) is a multicriteria decision support method for multiple decision makers in discrete problems. In SMAA, the decision makers need not express their preferences explicitly or implicitly. Instead, the method is based on exploring the weight space in order to describe the valuations that would make each alternative the preferred one. Inaccurate...
