چکیده

Introduction Oligodendrogliomas represent 5-18% of all intracranial gliomas. They arise in the cortex and white matter of cerebral hemispheres. The majority of oligodendrogliomas are low grade tumors. Based on their clinical representation oligodendrogliomas can not be easily distinguished from other brain tumors especially astrocytomas. As the treatment is different in between oligodendrogliomas and astrocytomas correct characterization is clinically important. In general brain tumors are pathologically diagnosed by analysis of tumor tissue obtained by biopsies. MRI is well established for anatomical localization of tumors, however it is limited in the diagnosis of brain tumor type nor can it be used for reliable grading. Low grade oligodendrogliomas may show contrast enhancement while lack of contrast does not directly correspond with low grade malignancy. Here we characterize two human oligodendroglioma xenograft models by their metabolic profile using H MRSI and compare the findings to previously published human oligodendroglioma data

Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging can predict length of survival in patients with supratentorial gliomas.

OBJECTIVE We compared the ability of proton magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging ((1)H-MRSI) measures with that of standard clinicopathological measures to predict length of survival in patients with supratentorial gliomas. METHODS We developed two sets of leave-one-out logistic regression models based on either 1) intratumoral (1)H-MRSI features, including maximum values of a) choline an...

Improving the classification of brain tumors in mice with perturbation enhanced (PE)-MRSI

Classifiers based on statistical pattern recognition analysis of MRSI data are becoming important tools for the non-invasive diagnosis of human brain tumors. Here we investigate the potential interest of perturbation-enhanced MRSI (PE-MRSI), in this case acute hyperglycemia, for improving the discrimination between mouse brain MRS patterns of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), oligodendroglioma (OD...

Genetic determinants of malignancy in a mouse model for oligodendroglioma.

Oligodendrogliomas of all grades overexpress epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), whereas deletion of ink4a/arf is found only in high-grade tumors. We used the S100 beta promoter to generate transgenic mice expressing v-erbB, a transforming allele of EGFR. These mice developed low-grade oligodendroglioma. Transgenic animals heterozygous for ink4a/arf or p53 developed high-grade tumors. Comp...

Arterial spin-labeling and MR spectroscopy in the differentiation of gliomas.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Noninvasive grading of gliomas remains a challenge despite its important role in the prognosis and management of patients with intracranial neoplasms. In this study, we evaluated the ability of cerebral blood flow (CBF)-guided voxel-by-voxel analysis of multivoxel proton MR spectroscopic imaging ((1)H-MRSI) to differentiate low-grade from high-grade gliomas. MATERIALS A...
