Abstract: Effective Skin and SMAS Lifting Direction of Facelift in Asian

چکیده
ReSultS: Case logs of 818 plastic surgery residents were analyzed. Integrated residents performed more browlift, brachioplasty, abdominoplasty, and thighplasty surgeries over several graduating years (p < 0.05). Independent residents performed more blepharoplasty, breast augmentation and mastopexy surgeries during 2014 (p < 0.05). No differences were observed for facelift, rhinoplasty, breast reduction, or body lift surgeries by training model (p > 0.05). Variability in case volume performed by the bottom and top 10 percentiles of residents changed over time with significant decreases in variability for rhinoplasty cases among integrated residents (p = 0.001) and abdominoplasty cases among independent residents (p = 0.049).

CONCLUSION: Facial bone contouring procedures such as malar and mandibular angle reduction surgeries are getting popular to improve the wide facial features with economic development in Asia. However, it can result in soft tissue drooping in cheek or jowl. Asian distinct facial characteristics make achievement of satisfactory results relatively difficult in facelift. The author utilizes ‘high S...

BACKGROUND Recent anatomic studies suggest the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) layer attenuates in the midface. This led the author to switch from a bilamellar high SMAS dissection to a "total composite flap" technique, preserving skin and SMAS/platysma as one layer in a critical "deep-plane transition zone" (DTZ) lateral to the zygomaticus major muscle. This allows traction on the...

متن کاملCommentary on: High superficial musculoaponeurotic system facelift with finger-assisted facial spaces dissection for Asian patients.
BACKGROUND Few facelift methods are designed specifically for Asian patients. Because of their characteristic thick skin and flat, wide facial geometry, satisfactory facelift results can be difficult to achieve in these patients. OBJECTIVES The authors evaluated outcomes achieved with a high superficial musculoaponeurotic system (high-SMAS) facelift with finger-assisted facial spaces dissecti...

Patients with thick skin mainly exhibit the aging processes of sagging, whereas patients with thin skin develop wrinkles or volume loss. Asian skin is usually thicker than that of Westerners; and thus, the sagging of skin due to aging, rather than wrinkling, is the chief problem to be addressed in Asians. Asian skin is also relatively large in area and thick, implying that the weight of tissue ...
