One of the assumptions of the AME bioassay is false. However, the . assumptions underlying the TME bioassay appear to be valid providing the excre,ta energy values of all birds are adjusted to zero nitrogen balance. The adjustment controls variation in metabolic plus endogenous energy loss-associated with the physiological state of the bird, the environment in which it lives, and the nature and amount of feed provided.
