A key sticking point dividing fundamentalists and conservative evangelicals is the question regarding the cessation versus the continuation of New Testament prophecy. Fundamentalists have traditionally argued for the present cessation of New Testament prophecy, 1 whereas a growing number of conservative evangelicals argue for its present continuation. 2 At the heart of the debate are the issues of a closed canon and the New Testament’s role as the final rule for faith and practice.
