Photometric Detection of High Proper Motions in Dense Stellar Fields Using Difference Image Analysis

چکیده

The Difference Image Analysis (DIA) of the images obtained by the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE-II) revealed a peculiar artifact in the sample of stars proposed as variable by Woźniak (2000) in one of the Galactic bulge fields: the occurrence of pairs of candidate variables showing anticorrelated light curves monotonic over a period of 3 years. This effect can be understood, quantified and related to the stellar proper motions. DIA photometry supplemented with a simple model offers an effective and easy way to detect high proper motion stars (HPM stars) in very dense stellar fields, where conventional astrometric searches are extremely inefficient. New Limits on an Intermediate Mass Black Hole in Omega Centauri: I. Hubble Space Telescope Photometry and Proper Motions

We analyze data from the Hubble Space Telescope’s Advanced Camera for Surveys of the globular cluster Omega Cen. We construct a photometric catalog of 1.2×106 stars over a 10′×10′ central field down to below BF435W = 23 (M ∼ 0.35M⊙). The 2.5to 4-year baseline between observations yields a catalog of some 10 proper motions over a smaller area, with 53,382 “high-quality” measurements in a central...

Absolute Proper Motions to B ∼ 22 . 5 : IV . Faint , Low Velocity White Dwarfs and the White Dwarf Population Density Law

The reduced proper motion diagram (RPMD) for a complete sample of 819 faint (B ≤ 22.5) stars with high accuracy proper motions (σ µ ∼ 1 mas yr −1) in an area of 0.3 deg 2 in the North Galactic Pole field SA57 is investigated. Eight stars with very large reduced proper motions are identified as faint white dwarf candidates. On the basis of larger than 6σ measured proper motions and the lack of p...

Relative Proper Motions in the Rho Ophiuchi Cluster

Near-infrared images optimized for astrometry have been obtained for four fields in the high-density L 1688 cloud core over a 12 year period. The targeted regions include deeply embedded young stellar objects (YSOs) and very low luminosity objects too faint and/or heavily veiled for spectroscopy. Relative proper motions in R.A. and decl. were computed for 111 sources and again for a subset of 6...

PPM-Extended (PPMX) - a catalogue of positions and proper motions

Aims. We build a catalogue PPM-Extended (PPMX) on the ICRS system which is complete down to a well-defined limiting magnitude and contains the best presently available proper motions to be suited for kinematical studies in the Galaxy. Methods. We perform a rigorous weighted least-squares adjustment of individual observations, spread over more than a century, to determine mean positions and prop...

Stellar Proper Motions in the Galactic Bulge from deep HST ACS / WFC

We present stellar proper motions in the Galactic bulge from the Sagittarius Window Eclipsing Extrasolar Search (SWEEPS) project using ACS/WFC on HST. Proper motions are extracted for more than 180,000 objects, with >81,000 measured to accuracy better than 0.3 mas yr in both coordinates. We report several results based on these measurements: 1. Kinematic separation of bulge from disk allows a s...
