Fibrinolysis and Occlusive Vascular Disease

چکیده
Based on a Dissertation read before the Royal Medical Society on Friday. 20th January, 1961. The magnitude of the problem of occlusive vascular disease needs no introduction ; we should therefore be acquaint with any new therapeutic developments, particularly if these h a v e reached the stage of clinical trials. I apologise for any bias and simplification in this article. The purpose of the original Dissertation was to arouse curiosity ; this article attempts to do no more. Copyright Royal Medical Society. The 'fibrinolytic potential' as a simple measure of spontaneous fibrinolysis.
Natural or spontaneous fibrinolytic activity of the blood is due to a labile activator which is stabilized by fibrin formation. Current methods of measuring spontaneous fibrinolysis require either low temperature centrifugation when plasma is used or photography when diluted whole blood is used and neither is available in the average laboratory. A method of measuring fibrinolytic activity in bl...
متن کاملAblation of angiotensin IV receptor attenuates hypofibrinolysis via PAI-1 downregulation and reduces occlusive arterial thrombosis.
OBJECTIVE Reduced fibrinolytic activity is associated with adverse cardiovascular events. Although insulin-regulated aminopeptidase (IRAP) was recently identified as the angiotensin (Ang) IV receptor (AT4R), the impact of AngIV-AT4R signaling distal to AngII on the activation of type-1 plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI-1) in the fibrinolytic process and subsequent formation of thrombosis rem...
متن کاملPlasminogen activator inhibitor-1 and vitronectin promote vascular thrombosis in mice.
Occlusive thrombosis depends on the net balance between platelets, coagulation, and fibrinolytic factors. Epidemiologic information suggests that plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), a central regulator of the fibrinolytic system, plays an important role in determining the overall risk for clinically significant vascular thrombosis. Vitronectin (VN), an abundant plasma and matrix glycopro...
متن کاملSeverity of peripheral atherosclerosis is associated with fibrinogen and degradation of cross-linked fibrin.
Immunohistochemical studies of human atherosclerotic lesions have demonstrated the occurrence of fibrin deposition and its degradation in the arterial wall. We studied fibrinogen, the generation of thrombin, and the degradation of fibrin in 40 patients with stable peripheral arterial occlusive disease of varying severity, as assessed by the ankle/brachial pressure index and duplex ultrasonograp...
متن کاملExternal leg compression in the treatment of vascular disease.
In summary, external compression of the limbs is a mode of therapy that has enjoyed a long history in the treatment of venous and arterial disease. Evidence suggests that its beneficial effects are mediated through enhancement of venous and arterial blood flow, promotion of vasodilation, enhancement of fibrinolysis, and, in the case of obstructive arterial disease, promotion of the development ...
