Competitive rational expectations equilibria without apology

چکیده
In a standard financial market model with asymmetric information with a finite number N of risk-averse informed traders, competitive rational expectations equilibria provide a good approximation to strategic equilibria as long as N is not too small: equilibrium prices in each situation converge to each other at a rate of 1/N as the market becomes large. The approximation is particularly good when the informationally adjusted risk bearing capacity of traders is not very large. This is not the case if informed traders are close to risk neutral. Both equilibria converge to the competitive equilibrium of an idealized limit continuum economy as the market becomes large at a slower rate of 1/√N and, therefore, the limit equilibrium need not be a good approximation of the strategic equilibrium in moderately large markets. Dynamic Noisy Rational Expectations Equilibria with Anticipative Information1
This paper studies a dynamic continuous time economy with discrete dividend payment dates and anticipative private information about future dividends. The economy is populated by informed and uninformed investors as well as active unskilled investors. Both competitive and monopolistic informed behaviors are examined. The existence of noisy rational expectations equilibria is demonstrated. Equil...
متن کاملMultiple Equilibria in Heterogeneous Expectations Models
This paper fills an important gap in the literature on determinacy and existence of sunspot equilibria in stochastic linear self-referential models. The results in this paper demonstrate that heterogeneity in expectations may alter a model’s regions of determinacy. We show how to associate with a heterogeneous expectations model (HE-model) a rational expectations model (ARE-model), the solution...
متن کاملSelf-confirming Equilibrium
A self-con rming equilibrium is the answer to the following question: what are the possible limiting outcomes of purposeful interactions among a collection of adaptive agents, each of whom averages past data to approximate moments of the conditional probability distributions of interest? If outcomes converge, a Law of Large Numbers implies that agents' beliefs about conditional moments become c...
متن کاملStable near-rational sunspot equilibria
A new class of near-rational sunspot equilibria is identified in economies expressed as non-linear forward-looking models. The new equilibria are natural extensions of the usual sunspot equilibria associated to the linearized version of the economy, and are near-rational in that agents use the optimal linear forecasting model when forming expectations. A generic existence result is established....
متن کاملOrder-Driven Markets are Almost Competitive
This paper studies a market game under uncertainty in which agents may submit multiple limit and market orders. When agents know their preferences at all states, the competitive equilibrium can be supported as a Nash equilibrium of the market game, that is, agents behave as if they were price takers. Therefore, if the associated competitive economy has a fully revealing rational expectations eq...
